What you will be doing:
Work with the founder and an experienced engineering team to keep our SaaS platform 100% reliable, secure, highly responsive and cost-efficient for our customers. This is an individual contributor role and entails the following:
- Own the health of our Google Cloud Platform environment, including availability, performance, scalability and resource usage.
- Monitor backend API latency and frontend page performance, set up real-time alerts, and work with the engineering team to fix slowdowns before they affect customers.
- Build and maintain Python services and internal tools that automate monitoring, alerting, reporting and other critical operational work.
- Track and analyse cloud costs and identify and implement ways to optimise operational expenses.
- Maintain stability dashboards, process documents, cloud FAQs and integration guides for services built.
- Present performance, stability and cost reports to the management.
- Manage access control across cloud projects by designing IAM roles that follow the principle of least privilege.
- Ensure customer delight, learn new technologies and above all, have fun!
Requirements:
We are looking for 3-5 years of experience as a Developer, DevOps Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer in a web/SaaS environment with the following skills and experience:
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, such as App Engine, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud Armor, WAFs (Web App Firewalls), IAM, and Cloud Monitoring and Logging.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with the ability to write clean, modular and reusable services rather than ad-hoc scripts.
- Experience building monitoring and alerting systems for application performance and stability.
- Basic understanding of SQL/NoSQL query.
- Good understanding of web application architecture, APIs and frontend performance.
- Working knowledge of cloud security practices, including access control and protection against unwanted traffic.
- Experience testing software releases, with an eye for finding corner cases and a knack for breaking the system.
- Ability to collate data, analyse trends and compile clear reports.
- Independent: Drives tasks from concept to completion without waiting to be asked.
- Strong analytical skills, good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or similar field.
Good to have:
- Experience with Google Apps Script and Google Workspace APIs.
- Experience with test automation using Selenium or similar tools.
- Experience with cloud cost optimization.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and basic knowledge infrastructure automation like DNS, SSL and routing in cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of software development principles and patterns.
- Understanding of the internals of git version control.
- Google Cloud certification, AWS or other cloud certifications.
- Knowledge in platform security like load balancers, Google Cloud Armor and traffic filtering.
