Job details:
We Are
Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.
You Are
You bring solid experience in UNIX and Linux system administration, and you understand these skills form the backbone of reliable infrastructure. Your knowledge of kernel behavior, memory management, and process threads has been applied to troubleshoot production issues in live environments. You work efficiently in command-line environments, develop scripts to automate operational tasks, and maintain documentation that enables effective knowledge transfer. You are prepared to work in a rotational shift model supporting global operations. At Synopsys, you will contribute to a team responsible for high-performance Linux environments that support semiconductor R&D operations worldwide.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, automate, and support Linux systems and services in a 24x7 production environment supporting global R&D teams.
- Administer UNIX systems across bare metal and virtualized infrastructure, including provisioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Build and maintain automation using Ansible, shell scripting, Perl, or Python to reduce manual work and improve reliability.
- Manage and deploy hypervisors such as VMware, KVM, oVirt, or OpenStack, including VM provisioning, networking, and performance tuning.
- Monitor system health and respond to incidents using tools like Nagios and the ELK stack, documenting root cause and resolution.
- Collaborate with other technical teams to evaluate, recommend, and implement solutions that meet evolving business and infrastructure needs.
- Maintain clear, up-to-date documentation of systems, configurations, standards, and procedures for team use and continuity.
The Impact You Will Have
- Keep critical Linux environments running reliably so engineering teams can focus on building products, not waiting on infrastructure.
- Reduce manual toil and human error by automating repetitive tasks and configuration management across the platform.
- Improve incident response time and system visibility through monitoring, logging, and proactive alerting.
- Enable faster provisioning and scaling of compute resources by managing virtualized infrastructure efficiently.
- Strengthen team knowledge and operational consistency through documentation that others can actually use.
- Support a global R&D organization where system performance and uptime directly affect product development velocity.
- Build automation and tooling that will scale as the platform grows and as new technologies are adopted.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 2+ years of experience in UNIX or Linux system administration, customer support, computer operations, or a related technical area.
- Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems, including kernel, memory, process, threads, and cgroups.
- Hands-on experience managing and deploying Linux-based operating systems in production environments.
- Scripting ability in shell, Perl, or Python to automate tasks and solve operational problems.
- Experience with hypervisors such as VMware, KVM, Xen, oVirt, or OpenStack, including provisioning and management.
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like Nagios or the ELK stack is a plus.
Who You Are
- You can independently troubleshoot a wide range of system issues and know when to escalate or collaborate.
- You are comfortable working on a rotational shift schedule to support 24x7 operations across time zones.
- You treat documentation as part of the job, not an afterthought, and you write it so others can follow it under pressure.
- You communicate clearly with technical and non-technical teammates, explaining what broke, what you did, and what comes next.
- You are ready to learn new tools, platforms, and workflows as the infrastructure evolves.
The Team You'll Be Part Of
You will join the Linux Platform Support Team, a group responsible for building, operating, and maintaining high-performance Linux environments that support Synopsys R&D globally. The team works collaboratively across shifts and geographies to ensure system reliability, automation, and continuous improvement of the infrastructure that powers semiconductor design and development.
Rewards And Benefits
We offer a comprehensive range of health, wellness, and financial benefits to cater to your needs. Our total rewards include both monetary and non-monetary offerings. Your recruiter will provide more details about the salary range and benefits during the hiring process.
