Job Summary: 

Criminally Obsessed is seeking a highly motivated, true crime-obsessed Production Assistant to support the creation of an engaging daily true crime show for YouTube and podcast platforms. This role is ideal for someone looking to break into digital media production, with a passion for storytelling, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn.

As a Production Assistant, you’ll help with research, content gathering, editing support, and livestream operations. You’ll work closely with producers and editors to ensure smooth production workflows while contributing to the development of compelling true crime content.

This role is perfect for a detail-oriented, digital-savvy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to grow within a content production team. Travel may be required for content gathering and breaking news coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist producers and editors in creating and publishing the daily show as well as social-first true crime content
  • Conduct basic research using public records, databases, and media sources 
  • Help track news stories and identify potential content opportunities
  • Support livestream coverage of breaking crime events, including press conferences and trials featuring the show host
  • Organize footage, assets, and project files to maintain efficient workflows
  • Assist with video editing tasks, including clipping, formatting, and repurposing content
  • Maintain content calendars, production notes, and internal tracking systems
  • Help manage and prepare equipment
  • Assist in executing all sponsorship elements, including ad reads and sponsored content, ensuring all deliverables are properly quality checked (QC’d)
  • Provide on-site production and logistics support, including setup, coordination, and troubleshooting as needed 
  • Stay informed on true crime trends and relevant media
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • This role requires occasional travel (approximately 10–20%) for on-site content coverage, training, or events
  • Physical Requirement: Must be able to safely lift, carry, and maneuver equipment/gear weighing up to 25 pounds

Daily Expectations:

  • Review assigned content and assist with identifying potential story opportunities
  • Support pitch preparation and gather assets for Content Strategy Sessions
  • Assist in the creation of content under producer/editor guidance
  • Help maintain organization of shared drives, project files, equipment and production schedules
  •  Assigned schedule is 8:30am to 5:30pm with an hour break, but may flex based on production needs

Qualifications:

  • 0–2 years of experience or relevant internships in media, production, or content creation
  • Strong interest in true crime and digital storytelling
  • Basic understanding of social media platforms and trends
  • Familiarity with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro preferred; other Adobe tools a plus)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from producers and editors
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset
  • Basic understanding of AP Style and digital publishing standards is a plus
