About the role
Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint. An engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost, and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes. You will develop these skills through a combination of classroom work and on the job activities at Siemens Energy.
We have several graduate positions available within Siemens Energy. Each role will specialise during the graduate development programme, to support a specific engineering team, however the first eighteen months of the programme will be common, allowing each engineer to identify their strengths and preferences within the wider team.
If specialised as a Power systems engineer, you will join a large HVDC project engineering team delivering both station to station and station to offshore projects within the UK and beyond.
You will be responsible for the study and simulation of the control and protection systems controlling the HVDC infrastructure.
Initially studying the effects of the infrastructure on the electricity network it is connected to and the interaction with other power generation systems in the locality.
Simulating the HVDC systems to ensure that designed solutions operate as expected when exposed to a variety of network fault and running conditions making use of our real-time simulation equipment within our HVDC laboratories.
As a power systems engineer you will need to be prepared to continue to learn new tools, techniques and methods throughout your career, and an agile approach is key to success.
If specialised as a SCADA, Communication and IT Security Engineering, you will join a team of electrical equipment control engineers whose responsibility it is to ensure that all components within a substation can be remotely monitored and controlled from a central facility owned by the customer without compromising network security.
In this role, you will design resilient networks comprised of sophisticated intelligent devices using modern Ethernet protocols such as IEC61850 to interconnect the systems required to supervise and control the substation.
Design the configuration and settings of the network components, define the overall cybersecurity specification, test these configurations within a laboratory environment, and assist with the installation and commissioning of the system both on- and offshore.
The role will develop a strong appreciation of both hardware and software systems, along with a detailed knowledge of cybersecurity and communication network components such as switches and router.
