Job Title: Assistant Manager – Mechanical (RMHS, DRI)
Department: Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) – Raw Material Handling System (RMHS)
Role Overview:
Responsible for maintenance, reliability, and smooth operation of mechanical systems in the RMHS section of a DRI plant. Ensures uninterrupted supply of raw materials (iron ore, coal, dolomite, etc.) to the process through efficient equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintenance & Operations
- Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance of RMHS equipment such as:
- Belt conveyors
- Stackers & reclaimers
- Screens & crushers
- Feeders (vibratory/rotary)
- Wagon tipplers / truck unloading systems
- Monitor equipment health and ensure minimum downtime.
2. Planning & Execution
- Prepare and execute preventive maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate shutdown activities and major overhauls.
- Ensure availability of spares and consumables.
3. Reliability & Improvement
- Analyze recurring failures and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (MTBF, MTTR improvements).
- Implement condition monitoring techniques (vibration, temperature, etc.).
4. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and SOPs.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure statutory compliance and safe work practices.
5. Team Management
- Supervise technicians, fitters, and contract workforce.
- Allocate daily maintenance tasks and monitor execution.
- Provide training and skill development.
6. Coordination
- Coordinate with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
- Work with procurement for spare parts and vendor development.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain maintenance logs, breakdown reports, and history sheets.
- Track KPIs like equipment availability, downtime, and maintenance costs.
Key Equipment Handled:
- Conveyor systems (belt, idlers, pulleys)
- Gearboxes, motors, couplings
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Dust suppression & extraction systems
- Crushers, screens, feeders
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5–10 years of experience in DRI / steel plant / bulk material handling systems
Key Skills:
- Strong knowledge of RMHS equipment and maintenance practices
- Troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- SAP/CMMS knowledge (preferred)
- Leadership and team management
- Understanding of safety standards
