Salary Range: $54,256 - $61,725 / academic year at 80% FTE, dependent upon education and experience
The integrated Music & Music Technology programs provide a unique community for students and faculty alike to collaborate, create, and learn. Shoreline seeks faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations and who have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural awareness and responsiveness.
Music faculty are primarily responsible for teaching students in the music program, with possible secondary teaching in the music technology program. Department faculty work collaboratively to develop curriculum integrating the study of music and music technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching large and small ensemble performance courses and a variety of music-related courses and may also teach courses in the music technology program depending on candidate’s skill set. A portion of the teaching assignment may be online, in the evening or weekend program, and/or at off-campus locations.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will advise students; promote partnerships with local high schools and other educational institutions, and performance and community organizations; be active in the regional music community; assist with assessment of current instructional methods; develop programs and curricula. Lastly, faculty will need to participate in Shoreline governance, department; division and campus-related professional activities; and include providing input into the proposed new music instruction and performance facility.Faculty at Shoreline will have an array of students from differing programs in their classroom, including professional technical and university transfers. Required Education & Experience:
- Masters Degree in Music or a closely related field
- Experience conducting professional, college, or high school performance ensembles
- Experience teaching in a secondary, post-secondary or community organization environment
- Experience teaching in the field of music which may include music history, music theory, advanced-level music theory, music appreciation, applied music, vocal/instrumental conducting, aural skills, or individual instruction (instrumental or vocal)
Knowledge of:- Microsoft Office programs
- Learning Management Systems and other appropriate instructional technologies
- Music and Music Tech pedagogies for a wide range of student preparedness
- Developing an instrumental music program
- Artistic programming that demonstrates knowledge of repertoire for varying skill levels
- Teaching Individual instruction - instrumental or vocal
Skill In:- Promoting appreciate and imparting enthusiasm for a broad range of music styles and genres, reflecting a variety of student interests
- Music program promotion and development, student recruitment and community outreach both on and off campus
- Teaching and developing coursework online
Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities
Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Minimum Qualifications
Physical Work Environment:
The College offers both in-person and online services, with the option of some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/studio space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
Terms Of Employment/Salary:
Pro-Rata 80% of full-time load, non-tenure-track academic position
172-day annual contract beginning September 17, 2026
Salary placement determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with the level of the related degree attained at an accredited institution
Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
