  • Feel the scale. The work of data engineers creates data-informed commerce experiences for millions around the globe.
  • Work with excellent peers. Working alongside other data engineers allows you to challenge each other (and peer-vet analysis) to set the standard for excellence, and work with elite levels of care to keep the quality high.

Why you’ll love working as a Product Data Scientist Intern

  • Seek objective truth. Our goal is to search for the objective truth through analysis so we can challenge assumptions and judgements.
  • Help with the big decisions. Apply analytical, statistical, and technical skills to drive insights that inform business actions and product decisions.
  • Leverage advanced analytics tools. Use cutting-edge techniques like regression, segmentation, and experimentation.

Important note: Please make sure you're applying to only one job in one country! Example: Data Internship in USA. Please do not submit applications to multiple jobs in Canada and the USA. Your first application is what our team will consider. Thank you!

Our internships are ideal for new grads and early talent at the start of their careers!

Find out more about our past intern experiences, watch our Intern Diaries video, and read through our FAQ to help answer any questions you may have about the Internships program at Shopify. At Shopify, our intern program is our primary way of recruiting top early talent into Engineering and Data roles. If you’re at the start of your career, and see yourself thriving at Shopify long-term, our internships are the pathway for you!

Being a Shopify Intern

We’re hiring interns into the following roles:

  • Data Engineers to build and manage the massive data pipelines that power commerce through foundational work on product analysis, machine learning, and everything in between.
  • Product Data Scientists to uncover the insights that inform how Shopify decides on what products to build and how to build them.
  • After Onboarding, Interns are expected to work in the office for 3 days/week. Interns can choose these 3 days, but it’s important to talk to your Manager and Mentor about what may work best for the team.

Working at Shopify

  • You must be legally entitled to work in the United States of America for the entire duration of the Fall 2025 internship (September 2nd to April 24th, 2026). Shopify does not provide immigration support to intern candidates at this time.
  • Our American Data internships are 8 month long, full-time, paid experiences.
  • This is a Fall 2025 Internship program. Winter 2026 and Summer 2026 internships are not currently available. Our Winter and Summer 2026 program dates will launch on our website this Summer!
  • As a Data Intern you must be able to work from our Bellevue, Washington office (1100 112th Ave NE).

Please note: if you don’t currently live in Bellevue you must be willing and able to relocate for in-office experiences. If successful in your application to the Internships Program, we will match you to a team when you start at Shopify. We’re unable to accommodate requests for particular teams and location changes once an offer is signed.

Onboarding

  • Your onboarding week will take place from September 2nd to 5th. Interns must be located in their office city (Bellevue) by the first day of Onboarding (September 2nd) ready to work 9:00am - 5:00pm. You can’t work from outside the United States of America.

  • You love challenging yourself with projects or hacking just for fun

About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $1 trillion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About You

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Use AI tools reflexively as part of your fundamental workflow
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work
