Key Responsibilities
1. Shift supervision and team leadership
• Supervise and coordinate the activities of STP operators, technicians, and helpers on the assigned shift, ensuring smooth handover and clear communication via shift logs.
• Assign duties, monitor work performance, and take immediate corrective action if any safety or operational standard is not followed.
2. STP process control and monitoring
• Monitor key STP processes including influent flow, primary treatment, biological treatment (e.g., MBBR/SBR/UASB), sludge handling, and final effluent discharge to ensure compliance with PCB/CPCB-type norms.
• Record critical parameters (flow, pH, DO, BOD/COD indicators, sludge levels, etc.) in the shift log and escalate deviations to the Plant Supervisor.
3. Digester and biogas-CHP operations
• Operate and monitor the anaerobic digester (sludge feeding, mixing, temperature, pH, gas production) and ensure stable biogas generation for the CHP unit.
• Supervise operation of the CHP (biogas engine/generator and heat recovery) system, including start-up, shutdown, load balancing, and basic troubleshooting, ensuring optimal power generation and thermal utilization.
Maintenance and safety coordination:
• Coordinate with the maintenance team for preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of pumps, blowers, clarifiers, digesters, CHP system, and other critical equipment during the shift.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety rules, isolation procedures, and PPE usage; stop unsafe work and report near-misses or incidents immediately.
Emergency response and reporting:
• Act as the first-line response leader for plant emergencies such as power failure, digester upset, CHP tripping, or effluent quality issues, implementing contingency plans and informing the Plant Supervisor/Plant Head.
• Prepare shift reports on process performance, maintenance activities, incidents, and any outstanding issues for the next shift and management review.
Qualifications and Experience
• Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental / Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience:
• Minimum 6–10 years of experience in Sewage or Wastewater Treatment Plant operations, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or shift-in-charge role.
• Hands-on experience with anaerobic digestion, biogas handling, and CHP/co-generation systems is highly preferred.
Technical skills:
• Familiarity with PLC/SCADA, basic instrumentation, and STP process control.
• Working knowledge of environmental safety standards, STP process charts, and shift-log reporting.
