Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Shift Engineer role based in Gandhidham. The Shift Engineer oversees day-to-day terminal operations during assigned shifts, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling, storage, and transfer of products. Responsibilities include monitoring equipment and systems, coordinating with operations and maintenance teams, and responding promptly to operational issues or alarms. The role involves conducting routine inspections, logging shift activities, and ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. The Shift Engineer also supports start-up and shutdown activities, assists in troubleshooting equipment problems, and participates in incident reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Strong technical foundation in mechanical, chemical, electrical, or instrumentation engineering, preferably with experience in terminals, oil and gas, petrochemicals, or related process industries.
- Hands-on experience in plant/terminal operations, including monitoring pumps, valves, pipelines, storage tanks, loading/unloading systems, and control room interfaces.
- Good understanding of safety, health, environment, and quality (SHE/Q) practices, including permit-to-work systems, hazard identification, and emergency response procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, operating manuals, and standard operating procedures, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and coordination skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and shift personnel, including clear shift handovers and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities under time-sensitive conditions, with a focus on minimizing downtime and maintaining safe operations.
- Comfort working in rotating shifts and in an industrial, field-based environment, with a commitment to punctuality and reliability.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related discipline) from a recognized institution.
- Prior experience in tank farm operations, liquid bulk or gas terminals, or port-based facilities is an advantage.
- Basic proficiency with computer-based systems for logging data, generating reports, and using maintenance or operations software tools.
