Schedule: 180 days per school year, 7 hours per day with start and end times varying by building.

Salary: $64,664 - $119,032 annually, depending on experience. The listed salary range is based on the 2025-2026 school year and will be updated once 2026-2027 salaries are finalized.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Benefits: 12 sick leave days of which 6 can be used for personal leave each school year; 5 days bereavement leave per school year; health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance. Overview
The K–5 Homeschool Family Partner Teacher supports the Shelton School District's Strategic Plan by implementing an Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) program designed to provide engaging, flexible learning opportunities for families who choose to homeschool. This position partners with families to deliver curriculum, guidance, and support that facilitate core instruction in the home environment.
The teacher provides oversight, progress monitoring, feedback, and targeted in-person support for small groups of students while fostering strong relationships with families. This role is essential in ensuring students are making academic progress, families feel supported and confident, and the program maintains alignment with Washington State standards and ALE requirements.
Requirements
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate with a K-8 endorsement required
- Ability to meet ALE (Alternative Learning Experience) compliance requirements
- Ability to pass a federal background check
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
- Experience in elementary instruction (K–5), including literacy and math
- Knowledge of Washington State Learning Standards and curriculum alignment
- Understanding of Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) requirements, including WSLPs and progress monitoring (preferred, not required)
- Experience supporting differentiated instruction and individualized learning plans
- Experience working with families and/or non-traditional learning environments (preferred, not required)
- Familiarity with curriculum design, pacing, and instructional coaching
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting, collaborative relationships with families as partners in education
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain instructional strategies, expectations, and student progress
- Ability to coach and empower adults (families) to effectively facilitate learning at home
- Ability to adapt communication and support to meet the needs of diverse families and learning styles
- Ability to problem-solve collaboratively and mediate concerns with professionalism and empathy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Ability to remain flexible, responsive, and solution-oriented in a non-traditional learning environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including managing multiple students, family partnerships, and compliance requirements

Essential Functions
- Partners with families to support implementation of core instruction in the home
- Provides guidance, modeling, and coaching to families on instructional strategies and curriculum use
- Establishes and maintains regular communication with families to support student progress and engagement
- Supports families in understanding expectations, pacing, and instructional goals
- Monitors student progress through work samples, assessments, and ongoing communication
- Provides timely, specific feedback to students and families
- Develops and maintains Written Student Learning Plans (WSLPs) in alignment with ALE requirements
- Adjusts supports and recommend interventions when students are not making adequate progress
- Facilitates required in-person learning opportunities when additional support is needed
- Plans and delivers small group instruction (e.g., literacy, math, intervention support)
- Provides in-person sessions (e.g., 2x per week) focused on skill development and community building
- Creates a positive, engaging learning environment during in-person sessions
- Supports implementation of district-aligned curriculum in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
- Provides families with curriculum materials, pacing guidance, and instructional resources
- Ensures alignment with Washington State standards and district expectations
- Assists in refining program practices, tools, and systems as part of the pilot
- Maintains accurate records of student progress, communication, and required ALE documentation
- Ensures compliance with state ALE requirements, including progress monitoring and documentation timelines
- Collects and reviews work samples and assessment data
- Collaborates with district leadership and staff to support program implementation and continuous improvement
- Participates in meetings, trainings, and program development efforts
- Supports outreach and communication efforts to families as needed
- Maintains current knowledge of ALE requirements and best practices in home partnership models
- Participates in professional development, required trainings, and meetings
