Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) professional to lead the design and governance of an enterprise-wide ITAM/SAM capability. You will establish a scalable operating model, define policies and controls, and drive lifecycle governance from procurement through to retirement, aligned with ISO 19770 and ITIL 4 standards.
You will bring strong expertise across major software publishers (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, Cisco), leading onboarding, license model normalisation, and ensuring accurate entitlement management and compliance through Effective License Position (ELP) reporting. A key focus will be on identifying optimisation opportunities, reducing risk, and driving cost efficiency across the software estate.
As the ServiceNow SAM Pro owner, you will configure and optimise the platform, manage integrations (CMDB, Discovery, Procurement, Cloud), and deliver insightful dashboards to support data-driven decision making.
This is a high-impact role requiring a blend of technical SAM expertise, strategic thinking, and strong stakeholder engagement to build a mature, value-driven asset management function.
Key Responsibilities
ITAM/SAM Process Setup & Governance
- Design and roll out enterprise SAM operating model (RACI, policies, standards, controls).
- Establish intake workflows for software requests, CMDB/Discovery integrations, license entitlements ingestion, and lifecycle governance (procure-to-retire).
- Define and maintain SAM KPIs/SLAs; implement a continuous improvement framework.
- Align with ISO 19770, ITIL 4, security, procurement, finance, and audit requirements.
Publisher Onboarding & License Model Mastery
- Lead onboarding for key publishers/products including (but not limited to):
- Oracle, SAP, Basware Corporation, Anana/Genesys, OpenText, McAfee, Symantec, Cisco Systems, DocuSign, Celonis, Kronos (UKG), PTC Software, Infor, TIBCO Software, Auth0, Google, Webex, Rapid7, ControlUp, Quest Software.
- Configure license metrics and normalize SKUs (e.g., processor/core-based, user-based, device-based, subscription, SaaS seats/MAUs).
- Implement reconciliations, rights consumption rules, and downgrade/upgrade rights.
- Maintain proof of entitlement (PoE), contracts, and support/maintenance alignment.
Effective License Position (ELP) Preparation
- Gather entitlements, deployments, and usage data across on-prem, cloud (IaaS/PaaS/SaaS), and VDI.
- Build ELPs per publisher: true-up risk, shortfalls, compliance gaps, and optimization opportunities.
- Present findings to leadership; drive remediation plans (harvesting, re-harvesting, subscription right-sizing, shelfware reduction, BYOL in cloud).
ServiceNow SAM Pro Ownership
- Administer SAM Pro: plugin enablement, data model, normalization, content library, reclamation rules, reconciliation jobs, and remediation workflows.
- Integrate with Procurement, CMDB, Discovery, Cloud Management, and Contract modules.
- Build dashboards (license position, spend, risk, harvestable software, optimization backlog).
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of strong experience with the ServiceNow ecosystem with at least 3+ years in SAM / SAMPro implementation, support, and maintenance projects.
- Proven experience leading enterprise Software Asset Management (SAM) / ITAM functions, including operating model design and governance frameworks
- Strong expertise in software licensing models across major vendors (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft, IBM, Cisco), including complex metrics (core, processor, SaaS, subscription)
- Hands-on experience building Effective License Positions (ELPs), with the ability to identify compliance risks and optimisation opportunities
- Deep knowledge of SAM processes and lifecycle management (request, procurement, deployment, usage, retirement)
- Experience working with ServiceNow SAM Pro, including configuration, normalization, reconciliation, and integrations (CMDB, Discovery, Procurement, Cloud)
- Strong understanding of ITIL-based service management and alignment with ISO 19770 standards
- Ability to define and track KPIs/SLAs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience working across procurement, finance, security, and audit teams
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to present insights and recommendations to senior leadership
- ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Software Asset Management (CIS-SAM)
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
- ITIL 4 Foundation (or higher)
