BORDERS GENERAL HOSPITAL
CLINICAL SERVICE MANAGER FOR PLANNED CARE
PERMANENT – 37 HOURS PER WEEK
Band 8a
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Service Manager within our Planned Care Division. The post holder provides senior leadership across a range of services within our Planned Care Division. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team you will have operational management responsibility for a portfolio that includes our Theatres Service, Intensive Care Unit, Radiology and Diagnostic Services.
We are looking for a committed and dynamic Manager with excellent communication skills and above all a real desire and passion to work with people to problem solve. If you are passionate about patient care delivering the highest standards, whilst also ensuring that patients have the best possible experience, then you’re the person we want.
It is essential you hold a first level degree plus leadership/managerial postgraduate qualification with experience of service planning, performance monitoring, budgetary and people management. You will have a track record of success in operational service management within a complex clinical multi-disciplinary team environment, preferably in the NHS. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills are essential for this role, to exert influence and develop constructive working relationships across the disciplines and with other service teams.
A current driving licence is essential. This post is for 37 hours per week with an on-call senior management rota for overnight and weekend support to our primary hospital site. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership and Disclosure Scotland checks.
There are many examples of excellence and endeavour by staff across our organisation, from front line doctors and nurses to support staff, technicians and managers. The NHS doesn’t stand still. The demand on our Health Care System is increasing as our population ages, and people rightly expect the high levels of service and care from the NHS. Meeting demand and realising the potential for improving services requires hard work, dedication and innovation on the part of all staff. Our staff are up for the challenge of delivering safe and high-quality care to patients. If you are too we would love to invite you to join us and be part of a dedicated and enthusiastic team.
Informal enquiries to Kirk Lakie – General Manager for Planned Care, via contact through Personal Assistant Anna Slater.

As from 01/04/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.
To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.
As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards
will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found
here.
It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form
