Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled
Server Engineer to design, develop, deploy, and operate fast, scalable, and highly available game services. The ideal candidate will have strong backend development experience, with
Java proficiency required, and hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, databases, Redis, APIs, security, and live game service operations.
The role involves working closely with
game designers, client engineers, web frontend teams, and production teams to deliver reliable and scalable gameplay experiences from conception through live operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and operate fast, scalable, and highly available game services from conception through delivery and live service operations.
- Work closely with game designers, client engineering, and production teams to achieve gameplay and product goals.
- Develop secure backend services and implement security best practices to protect user data and prevent cheating.
- Create and maintain automated testing, readiness testing, and deployment plans.
- Monitor server infrastructure performance, reliability, and costs, and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Design and implement data transformation and processing layers for game services.
- Define and maintain API contracts in collaboration with game server and web frontend teams.
- Manage Release Operations and Live Operations (Live Ops) for game services.
- Design and develop backend systems capable of handling large datasets and high-scale workloads.
- Profile, debug, and optimize scalable server and data systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout planning, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 4+ years of experience developing scalable backend services.
- Strong proficiency in Java is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical/work experience.
- Hands-on experience with cloud services such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience working with Redis.
- Strong understanding of database design and working with large datasets.
- Experience with relational databases such as:
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as:
- Experience defining API contracts and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
- PHP experience is a bonus.
Good to Have
- 3+ years of experience developing games using cloud services such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar platforms.
- Experience with technical planning, solution research, proposal development, and implementation.
- Experience using metrics and analytics to determine system quality, performance, or feature priority.
- Comfortable working across both client and server codebases.
- Experience with profiling, performance optimization, debugging, and scalable data systems.
- Experience with game service Release Ops / Live Ops.
- Strong interest in game development and gaming, with a passion for making and playing games.
