About the Role
As a Mental Health Associate, Student, you will gain supervised, hands-on experience providing outpatient mental health services to individuals affected by addiction and co-occurring disorders. This is an opportunity to work under the supervision of a licensed Mental Health Specialist while completing required practicum or internship hours for your graduate or doctoral program.
What You’ll Do
* Provide information about mental health and counseling services to patients and families.
* Assist in coordinating patient care and sharing updates across departments through treatment team meetings.
* Submit and maintain accurate Release of Information (ROI) forms for coordination with external providers.
* Review patient files and assess risk factors to support treatment planning.
* Conduct intake assessments, biopsychosocial histories, mental status exams (MSE), and psychological screenings.
* Document assessments, treatment progress, and patient interactions accurately in clinical records.
* Assist in suicide risk and pre-admission assessments as needed.
* Deliver supervised individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
* Provide support for co-occurring group sessions and case management services.
* Offer referrals and resources to help patients access additional mental health or substance use treatment.
* Collaborate in developing and improving patient care programs.
* Assist in providing crisis support to patients and families when needed.
* Respond to patient needs under guidance and supervision.
* Adapt to changing schedules and attend department needs, including flexible hours or occasional overtime.
* Embrace learning opportunities through feedback, supervision, and team collaboration.
What We’re Looking For
* Enrolled in a Master’s or PhD-level mental health program seeking supervised clinical hours
* Submitted and selected through separate application process with Serenity Lane Mental Health Director
* Bachelor’s degree in a social sciences field
* QMHA or QMHA-eligible (CADC I preferred)
* Reliable transportation
* Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
* Ability to track multiple data points and manage time effectively
* Comfort with technology, including relevant clinical software and Microsoft Office
* Physical ability to meet job demands (e.g., standing, stairs, repeated motions)
* Ability to pass a background check and drug screen (Serenity Lane is a Cannabis THC-free workplace)
