Job Title
Senior Workday Financials & Finance Architecture Consultant (Assessment‑Led Engagement)
Role Context
We are seeking a senior Workday Financials consultant to support a Phase‑1 assessment and future‑state design for a global Billing & Accounts Receivable (AR) transformation program.
The consultant will act as a Workday Financials & Finance Architecture authority, ensuring that future‑state processes, controls, and integrations are Workday‑feasible, audit‑grade, and implementation‑ready.
Key Objective of the Role
To assess, design, and validate a future‑state Billing‑to‑AR‑to‑GL operating model where Workday Financials is the system of record for General Ledger, addressing long‑standing reconciliation, control, and integration challenges across multiple upstream systems.
Core Responsibilities
1. Workday Financials Assessment & Design
- Act as the Workday Financials subject‑matter expert within a multi‑system finance transformation assessment.
- Evaluate how upstream billing and operational systems should integrate with Workday GL and AR.
- Identify and address GL vs sub‑ledger reconciliation risks, including timing differences, deletion handling, and data integrity issues.
- Define what belongs in Workday vs upstream systems, avoiding unnecessary customization.
2. Finance Process & Control Alignment
- Align L2/L3 finance process maps (Billing, AR, Collections, Adjustments, Close) with Workday Financials capabilities.
- Design control checkpoints before posting into Workday, ensuring:
- Audit‑grade traceability
- Clear ownership and segregation of duties
- Reduced manual interventions
- Support the creation of a future‑state Target Operating Model (TOM) aligned to Workday.
3. Integration & Architecture Advisory
- Review and advise on Workday integration patterns (API‑based, event‑driven, automation layers).
- Identify failure points commonly seen in Workday‑centric finance architectures at scale.
- Ensure future‑state designs support:
- Volume growth
- Reporting integrity
- Future automation / AI enablement
- Provide architectural guidance without drifting into implementation detail.
4. Phase‑1 Deliverables & Stakeholder Engagement
- Participate in finance and technology workshops as a senior Workday authority.
- Contribute to:
- Functional blueprints (L2/L3)
- Target architecture diagrams
- Control and reconciliation frameworks
- Act as a credibility anchor for Workday feasibility during Steering Committee discussions.
Required Experience & Skills
Mandatory
- 10+ years experience in Finance Transformation / Financial Systems
- Strong hands‑on expertise in Workday Financial Management, especially:
- General Ledger
- AR / sub‑ledger integration
- Financial controls and posting logic
- Proven experience dealing with GL vs sub‑ledger reconciliation challenges
- Ability to combine finance operating model thinking with Workday system design
- Experience in assessment‑led or blueprint‑driven engagements
Strongly Preferred
- Experience in multi‑system billing‑to‑GL environments
- Prior exposure to:
- Complex billing scenarios (credits, waivers, split payers, institutional billing)
- High‑volume invoice processing environments
- Experience working with external reporting layers (e.g. BI tools) where Workday is the GL source
- Comfortable challenging clients on unrealistic expectations or “tool‑only” thinking
Ideal Consultant Profile
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Has seen Workday implementations succeed and fail
- Is comfortable saying “this does not belong in Workday”
- Thinks in controls, reconciliation logic, and operating models
- Can support assessment rigor without over‑engineering
