Job details:
We’re hiring: Senior Unreal Gameplay & Backend Developer
We’re building Eminatti — a multiplayer, open-world simulation where students participate in jobs, manage money, contribute to teams, build infrastructure and experience how decisions shape a growing digital civilization.
We are now looking for a strong Unreal developer who can take ownership of the core playable systems and gradually grow into the primary technical owner of the product.
This is not an environment-art or architectural-visualisation role. The focus is gameplay systems, multiplayer logic, simulation, backend integration and reliable technical architecture.
What you will work on
• Player movement, spawning, interaction and session systems
• Multiplayer replication and dedicated-server logic
• Jobs, tasks, vehicles and reusable gameplay frameworks
• Player progression, eligibility, capabilities and rewards
• Wallets, earnings, taxation, savings and shared team funds
• Tribe, sub-tribe and collaborative progression systems
• Backend APIs, authentication and persistent player data
• PostgreSQL database design and server-side validation
• NPC, population and world-state simulation systems
• Unreal integration with UI, environments, animations and game assets
• Debugging, profiling, deployment and technical documentation
The role will primarily involve Unreal Engine development, with backend engineering forming an important secondary responsibility.
What we are looking for
• Strong Unreal Engine 5 experience
• Strong C++ and Blueprint architecture
• Good understanding of Unreal Gameplay Framework
• Experience with multiplayer replication and server-authoritative gameplay
• Ability to build reusable, data-driven gameplay systems
• Experience working with REST APIs and databases
• Understanding of authentication, persistence and server-side validation
• Strong debugging and problem-solving ability
• Ability to structure systems that can be understood and extended by future developers
• A responsible, accountable and self-driven approach to product ownership
Experience with some of the following would be valuable
• Dedicated Unreal servers
• PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker or cloud deployment
• Gameplay Ability System
• World Partition and open-world optimisation
• StateTree, Behaviour Trees or NPC systems
• Economy, management or simulation games
• PlayFab, GameLift or similar backend services
• Analytics, admin tools and automated testing
What this role is not
You will not be expected to create 3D models, environments, animations or cinematics. We already have artists working on those areas.
You will be responsible for making these environments playable, persistent and connected through strong gameplay and simulation systems.
The first major goal
The initial objective will be to build a playable vertical slice containing:
• Multiplayer player sessions
• One functional sub-tribe area
• Two or three job loops
• Player earnings and expenses
• Taxation and a shared street fund
• Basic progression and leaderboards
• Backend persistence
• Reconnection and state restoration
• A packaged client and dedicated-server build
We are looking for someone who is already capable of establishing this foundation and is also interested in continuously learning adjacent systems such as backend architecture, population simulation, deployment and live game operations.
This is intended to be a long-term, high-aacountability role for someone who wants to help shape a distinctive simulation product from its foundation.
To apply, please share:
• Your Unreal Engine portfolio
• Details of systems you personally built
• Any multiplayer or dedicated-server experience
• Examples of Unreal C++ work
• Backend or database experience, where applicable
• Your current location, availability and expected compensation
Interested candidates can apply by sending their portfolio and profile through LinkedIn.
