Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer — ERP & Automation, A leading AI based IT company, Remote
Job Summary: A leading AI integration and AI tech startup is hiring for a Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer to design and implement an end-to-end manufacturing ERP and automation ecosystem. The role involves configuring and extending ERPNext/Frappe, integrating systems, and building automated workflows for production, inventory, quality, subcontracting, and costing. The ideal candidate will combine strong manufacturing process knowledge with hands-on expertise in ERP architecture, Python, APIs, integrations, and workflow automation.
About the company: Our client is engaged in the business of building core AI-powered data orchestration and automation platform designed to operate on top of existing enterprise systems. They develop reusable core technology for healthcare, professional services, manufacturing, and other regulated industries, supported by experienced financial and strategic partners for long-term focus and disciplined execution.
Location: Remote
Note: Involves travelling to Surat as and when required
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Manufacturing Process Architecture
Analyse manufacturing processes together with operational stakeholders and translate them into scalable digital workflows. Design the target operating model for:
- raw materials;
- components;
- bills of materials;
- production routing;
- workstations;
- production orders;
- work-in-progress;
- subcontracted operations;
- quality control;
- rework;
- finished goods;
- inventory;
- costing;
- traceability.
Identify process gaps, manual activities and opportunities for automation.
2. ERPNext / Frappe Architecture
Configure and extend ERPNext / Frappe to support the manufacturing model. Own the architecture of:
- Items and Item Groups;
- Units of Measure;
- Warehouses;
- Bills of Materials;
- Multi-level BOMs;
- Routing;
- Operations;
- Workstations;
- Work Orders;
- Job Cards;
- Production Planning;
- Material Requests;
- Stock Entries;
- Subcontracting;
- Quality Inspections;
- Serial / Batch tracking where applicable;
- production costing.
Understand when the ERP standard functionality should be used and when a custom solution is justified.
Avoid unnecessary customisation and design maintainable solutions.
3. Workflow & Automation
Design automations between operational processes. Examples may include:
- automatic creation of production documents;
- material allocation;
- inventory movements;
- approval workflows;
- alerts and exceptions;
- production status updates;
- quality-control triggers;
- supplier/subcontractor workflows;
- automatic data validation;
- scheduled tasks;
- operational notifications.
The candidate should be comfortable designing event-driven processes using Frappe workflows, server scripts, APIs, webhooks and custom applications when necessary.
4. Systems Integration
Design integrations between ERPNext and other software platforms or operational systems used by the factory. Responsibilities may include:
- REST APIs;
- webhooks;
- external software integrations;
- data import/export pipelines;
- third-party applications;
- production equipment or shop-floor systems where required.
5. Data Model & Traceability
Design a reliable manufacturing data model. The system must allow the business to understand:
- what material entered production;
- where it is currently located;
- which operation was performed;
- who performed it;
- which supplier or subcontractor was involved;
- material consumption;
- scrap generated;
- recoverable material;
- production costs;
- quality-control results;
- finished-product history.
6. Manufacturing Costing
Design manufacturing costing logic covering, where applicable:
- raw materials;
- labour;
- machine/workstation costs;
- subcontracting costs;
- scrap;
- recoverable scrap;
- rework;
- overhead allocation.
The candidate must understand the operational implications of production costing, not only ERP configuration.
7. Jewellery Manufacturing Context
Previous experience in jewellery manufacturing is not mandatory, but the candidate must be comfortable working with complex discrete-manufacturing environments.
Typical problems may include:
- precious-metal inventory;
- materials managed by weight;
- stones and high-value components;
- recoverable scrap;
- production losses;
- multi-stage manufacturing;
- subcontracted craftsmanship;
- individual product traceability;
- custom products;
- product variants;
- rework;
- quality inspection;
- differences between theoretical and actual material consumption.
The ability to understand these problems and translate them into ERP logic will be critical.
Requirement:
- 3+ years working with manufacturing ERP implementations;
- Strong ERPNext / Frappe Framework experience;
- Previous experience implementing ERPNext Manufacturing in real production environments;
- Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows;
- Strong understanding of inventory and warehouse processes;
- Experience with BOMs, routing, work orders and shop-floor operations;
- Experience with manufacturing costing;
- Experience integrating external systems with ERP platforms;
- Experience designing workflow automation.
This is not primarily:
- an ERP support role;
- a helpdesk position;
- a junior Frappe developer role;
- a pure software-development role;
- a functional consultant who cannot implement;
- a developer who does not understand manufacturing.
Success in the Role
Within the initial phase of the project, the successful candidate should be able to:
- map the manufacturing process end-to-end;
- identify the correct ERP data model;
- define the manufacturing architecture;
- configure the core ERP manufacturing modules;
- define required customisations;
- build or coordinate critical automations;
- establish inventory and material traceability;
- implement production workflows;
- establish costing logic;
- create a scalable architecture that can evolve with the factory.
Preferred Background
Candidates coming from the following environments may be particularly relevant:
- industrial manufacturing;
- precision manufacturing;
- jewellery manufacturing;
- metal manufacturing;
- automotive components;
- electronics manufacturing;
- machinery;
- luxury-goods manufacturing;
- engineered-to-order production;
- complex discrete manufacturing.
Jewellery-sector experience is a plus but deep manufacturing ERP expertise is more important.
Profile We Are Looking For
- Understands factory processes and production workflows.
- Converts processes into ERP workflows and automation.
- Strong in hands-on ERPNext/Frappe implementation.
- Thinks Process → Data → ERP → Automation.
- Avoids unnecessary customization and builds simple, scalable solutions.
Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in ERP, manufacturing systems or business systems engineering
Working Days: Monday-Friday
