Competency
A Certified FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) Piping Inspector/QA QC Inspector ensures that GRP/GRE/GRV piping systems are fabricated, installed, and tested according to project specifications, ITPs, and international standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM). Key duties include material verification, adhesive bonding monitoring, NDT, and hydro testing.
Core Responsibilities
- Material Receiving & Inspection: Verify incoming pipes, fittings, and adhesives (GRE/GRV) against material certificates (MTC) and specification requirements.
- Fabrication & Installation Monitoring: Witness cutting, shaving, adhesive bonding, and cure time to ensure structural integrity.
- Visual & Dimensional Checks: Perform inspection of fit-up, support installation, and final alignment before and after installation.
- Hydro Testing/Inspection: Monitor hydro testing, including pressure monitoring, leak detection, and safety compliance.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ensure proper NDT techniques (visual, ultrasonic, or radiography) are performed on joints.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), maintain inspection records, and compile the final Mechanical Completion Dossier.
Requirements & Certification
- Experience: Usually BE or DME 5–8+ years in FRP/RTR piping inspection within oil & gas or chemical projects.
- Certifications: Valid Fiberglass Pipe Inspector (FPI) certification is preferred with Inspection experience in FRP Piping mfg.
- Knowledge: Expert knowledge of adhesive bonding, handling/storage of composite materials, and relevant standards.
