Role Objective
The candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end design engineering of HV/EHV substations, focusing on the preparation of technical specifications, detailed layouts, and core electrical calculations to ensure grid compliance and operational safety.
Core Responsibilities
- Technical Specifications & Procurement Support
- Drafting & Review: Prepare comprehensive technical specifications and Guaranteed Technical Particulars (GTP) for primary equipment (Transformers, GIS/AIS Switchgear, CRP) and secondary systems.
- Vendor Management: Review vendor drawings and technical offers to ensure alignment with project-specific Design Basis Reports (DBR) and tender requirements.
- Detailed Layout Engineering
- Plan & Sectional Views: Preparation of substation general arrangement (GA) layouts, equipment elevations, and clearance diagrams (Phase-to-Phase and Phase-to-Earth).
- Cable Management: Design of cable trench layouts, conduit routing, and the preparation of detailed Cable Schedules and Interconnection Diagrams.
- Engineering Calculations & Studies
- System Protection: Conduct Protection Coordination studies, including relay setting calculations (Overcurrent, Distance, Differential) to ensure selective tripping.
- Cable Sizing: Perform LV/HV cable sizing calculations based on thermal loading, short-circuit ratings, and voltage drop limits.
- Safety & Shielding: Perform Lightning Protection calculations (using the Shielding Angle or Rolling Sphere Method) and Earthing Grid designs per IEEE 80.
- Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Collaborate with Civil/Structural teams for foundation loading and steel structure requirements.
- Coordinate with the SCADA/Automation team for IO list mapping and IEC 61850 integration.
Technical Skill Set
- Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD (required) and power system simulation tools like ETAP (preferable) or DigSILENT (for load flow and protection coordination).
- Standards: Strong working knowledge of IEC 60076, IEC 62271, IEEE 80, and IEEE 242 (Protection Coordination).
- Documentation: Proven ability in drafting Method Statements, Design Basis Reports, and BOQs.
