Job Title
Senior Storage Administrator – Storage Systems
Key Responsibilities
Administer and support storage platforms, including VSP family systems, storage pools, host groups, LUN provisioning, expansions, and decommissioning activities.
Manage SAN infrastructure including Cisco MDS and/or Brocade fabrics, zoning, VSANs, ISLs, multipathing, host connectivity, and fabric health checks.
Perform storage allocation, LUN masking/mapping, capacity expansion, migration support, and reclamation activities for Linux, Windows, VMware, and other host platforms.
Monitor storage and SAN performance using operational and vendor tools, analyze KPIs such as IOPS, throughput, latency, and port utilization, and provide tuning recommendations.
Configure and support replication technologies, including local and remote replication for business continuity and disaster recovery use cases.
Execute and support DR drills, failover/failback validations, backup integration, and recovery readiness processes in coordination with application and infrastructure teams.
Perform firmware, microcode, and patch upgrades on storage arrays and SAN switches following change management and rollback procedures.
Act as L2/L3 escalation point for storage incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and work with OEM/vendor support for critical issue resolution.
Maintain storage documentation, topology diagrams, SOPs, implementation plans, operational runbooks, and knowledge articles for steady-state support and audits.
Support implementation, migration, refresh, and consolidation projects and other enterprise storage providers.
Collaborate with server, virtualization, backup, database, network, and DR teams to ensure stable and secure end-to-end storage operations.
Mentor junior administrators and provide guidance on operational best practices, incident handling, and platform standards.
Primary Skills
Strong hands-on expertise with enterprise storage, especially VSP series administration, provisioning, replication, and performance tuning.
Deep knowledge of SAN technologies including Fibre Channel, zoning, LUN masking, multipathing, ISLs, VSANs, NPIV, and fabric troubleshooting.
Experience with tools such as Ops Center Administrator, Ops Center Analyzer, Storage Navigator, Device Manager, Command Suite, or equivalent operational tooling depending on platform generation.
Strong understanding of replication technologies such as ShadowImage, Thin Image, TrueCopy, and Universal Replicator for local and remote data protection.
Proven experience in capacity planning, utilization trending, performance analysis, and remediation for enterprise storage environments.
Strong operational knowledge of firmware upgrades, patching, health checks, incident management, problem management, and ITIL-based change processes.
Experience supporting heterogeneous host environments including Linux, Windows, VMware/vSphere, and enterprise application workloads.
Strong troubleshooting skills across storage, SAN, host connectivity, and replication failure scenarios.
Secondary Skills
Exposure to other storage platforms such as Dell EMC, NetApp, IBM, or HPE storage arrays in mixed enterprise environments.
Experience with backup and recovery products such as Commvault, Veritas, Veeam, or similar enterprise data protection tools.
Familiarity with NAS protocols and file services such as NFS/SMB/CIFS in addition to block storage operations.
Understanding of cloud-adjacent or hybrid storage integration patterns, including gateway services or cloud-connected backup/storage workflows.
Basic scripting or automation skills in shell, Python, or Perl for reporting, health checks, and repetitive administrative tasks.
Knowledge of storage security practices such as RBAC, encryption, zoning standards, access control, and audit-readiness.
Experience with storage migrations, technology refresh programs, and datacenter relocation or consolidation projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in enterprise infrastructure operations.
Typically 8+ years of experience in enterprise storage administration, with strong recent experience in storage environments.
Proven experience in supporting mission-critical SAN/storage platforms in 24x7 production or managed services environments.
Demonstrated expertise in L2/L3 support, incident handling, capacity planning, performance tuning, and DR/replication operations.
Preferred certifications or training in storage, SAN switching, VMware, backup, or ITIL service management would be advantageous.
Business Hour
Normal Business hours. The expectation would be to start early to cover PST timezone or start late to cover EST time. Exception subject to manager permission.
Job Type
Hybrid Working: Minimum 2 days from office Tuesday and Thursday, but in case of business need and high demand, the manager may request to be present in the office on other days.
