The Role
The SDM is a senior engineering leadership role that sits at the intersection of hands-on technical
delivery and people management. We are looking for someone who can architect systems, ship
production-grade code, and simultaneously lead a team of senior engineers to do their best work.
This person will be a key pillar of Source’s engineering leadership and is positioned on a clear path
toward AVP of Technology as the organisation scales.
Key Responsibilities (The “How”)
• Own end-to-end technical architecture across multiple product verticals—from design
through development, deployment, and scale.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable web and mobile applications using the MERN stack
and Flutter; own features end-to-end.
• Lead the integration of AI/ML capabilities—LLM-based systems, intelligent automation,
predictive analytics—into production applications.
• Manage, mentor, and hold accountable a team of senior engineers; drive a high-
performance, ownership-oriented engineering culture.
• Oversee parallel workstreams across multiple verticals—managing priorities, dependencies,
and delivery timelines.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and leadership to translate business requirements into
robust, scalable technical solutions.
• Uphold engineering excellence: code quality, CI/CD, testing, monitoring, performance
optimisation, and security best practices.
• Contribute to the long-term technology roadmap alongside the Head of Technology.
The Ideal CandidateThe “W (ho”)
• Experienced Engineering Leader: 4–8 years of hands-on engineering experience, with at
least 2 years in a formal or de facto tech leadership role.
• Strong Technical Foundation: Deep proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), React.js, Node.js,
MongoDB, Flutter, and PostgreSQL; strong backend and API design skills.
• Architecture-First Thinker: Has contributed meaningfully to architecture decisions—
distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), DB design, and scalability.
• AI/ML-Capable Builder: Hands-on experience (or strong demonstrated interest) in
integrating AI/ML APIs and LLM-based systems into production applications.
• People Manager Who Delivers: Can get work done through the team, not just alongside it
—sets direction, unblocks engineers, and drives accountability.
• Multi-Vertical Operator: Comfortable managing parallel workstreams with competing
priorities across different product areas.
• Ownership Mindset: High accountability, low ego. Takes responsibility for outcomes and
holds the team to the same standard.
