Senior Software Engineer – Backend (Java)

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer – Backend (Java) to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and distributed services.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful microservices, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL databases, and system design. You will work closely with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to build high-performance, business-critical applications.
Experience with cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and AI-assisted development tools is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build event-driven and streaming solutions using Kafka for high-throughput and low-latency systems.
- Design and optimize data models using SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Own high-level and low-level technical design for backend systems.
- Design scalable and reliable distributed systems and microservices.
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Follow best practices for coding, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to deliver business-critical features.
- Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Contribute to technical decisions and improve engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
- 8–10+ years of software development experience, with strong backend engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Strong experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Experience with Kafka or similar messaging/streaming platforms.
- Strong SQL knowledge and experience with NoSQL databases.
- Proven experience with system design and technical design for distributed systems.
- Understanding of cloud-native architectures and microservices patterns.
- Experience with software development best practices, testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
AI Literacy
- Working knowledge of AI-assisted development tools for code generation, debugging, testing, and developer productivity.
- Ability to use AI tools to improve development efficiency, code quality, and technical design.
- Basic understanding of integrating AI/ML-powered APIs or services is a plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience working on large-scale eCommerce or high-traffic platforms.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
- Experience designing highly available and distributed backend systems.
