Job details:
Senior Software Developer — Heavy Materials & Logistics (7:30 PM–3:30 AM IST)
Remote (India-based) · Full-time · Fixed shift, 7:30 PM–3:30 AM IST (9:00 AM–5:00 PM US Central)
About XBE
XBE is the system of action for businesses that move ready-mix, asphalt, aggregates, and cement — scheduling jobs, dispatching trucks, pricing and quoting work, tracking materials and inventory, managing rate agreements with haulers and customers, and keeping the financial picture and compliance straight. One system instead of a dispatcher’s whiteboard, a stack of paper tickets, and three tools that don’t talk to each other.
We’ve tracked 475 million tons of material and $3B in trucking spend for operators who used to run this business on gut feel. Effectiveness first, efficiency second. Accountability as a force multiplier, not a burden. That’s how a small, fully remote, AI-first engineering team ships software for an industry that builds the physical world.
The role
We are hiring a Senior Software Developer to own features end to end on the BCMI product — the part of the XBE platform family serving ready-mix, aggregates, asphalt, and cement producers. You own problem framing, data modeling, API, UI, tests, and rollout, and you ship work you can stand behind.
This seat covers a fixed day shift aligned to US Central business hours, so BCMI's US ready-mix customers have real-time coverage from someone who can actually ship a fix, not just triage and hand it off.
We hire on outcomes, not on a specific stack, and not on job titles. Founders, technical product leads, and 0-to-1 builders who have owned a real system end to end are just as strong a fit as someone with a traditional “software engineer” title — we care whether you can read a schema, trace a request through the system, and ship reliable code in whatever the feature requires.
Schedule and coverage
This is a fixed 8-hour day shift aligned to US Central Time, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM CT. Translated to India Standard Time, that is approximately 7:30 PM–3:30 AM IST for most of the year (US Daylight Time, mid-March through early November) and 8:30 PM–4:30 AM IST during US Standard Time (early November through mid-March). Candidates should know upfront that this is an overnight shift in India, and it is a firm requirement of the role.
What you will own
- End-to-end delivery of customer-facing features across backend, frontend, and data layers.
- Data modeling, schema design, and query performance — indexes, execution plans, migrations.
- API design and integration — clean contracts between services and customer-facing applications.
- Frontend implementation that actually works for operators in the field — performance, accessibility, and unambiguous UX.
- Test discipline — unit, integration, and the regression coverage that lets us deploy without holding our breath.
- Operational fitness — observability, error tracking, and the small fixes that prevent the next incident.
You are a fit if
- You have shipped production full-stack features and can talk through real tradeoffs you made — not just the happy path.
- You have real, hands-on experience directing AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar) to implement production code — this is core to how the role works, not an occasional tool.
- You read a slow query plan and have an instinct for where the index belongs.
- You debug across layers — browser, API, ORM, database — without getting lost.
- You are comfortable picking up an unfamiliar language or framework with AI assistance and shipping in it.
- You close the loop: reproduce, isolate, fix, validate, and prevent recurrence.
- Your path here doesn’t have to run through a “software engineer” title — founders and technical product leads who have shipped and owned a real platform end to end fit just as well as someone who came up as a traditional engineer.
- You can reliably work the fixed US Central-aligned shift described above.
- Bias for action, high standards, low ego.
Nice to have
- Practical AI/LLM engineering — API integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini), prompt engineering, vector databases, embeddings, or evaluation frameworks — beyond just using coding agents to write code.
- Experience with ready-mix concrete, aggregates, asphalt, or another bulk-materials or construction-logistics domain.
- Polyglot history — meaningful contributions across multiple stacks in a single product.
- Real production experience with a relational database (any of Postgres, SQL Server, MySQL, or similar) — we care about the judgment, not the brand.
How we build (AI-first, but not careless)
- Coding agents write a lot of the code; humans own the outcomes.
- You verify with tests, instrumentation, and runtime behavior — not trust.
- Good specs, constraints, and eval criteria are part of the engineering work, not separate from it.
What success looks like
- You ship meaningful features quickly without breaking production.
- You raise quality through tests, guardrails, and better operational visibility.
- You reduce time-to-resolution during incidents and prevent repeats.
- You make the team faster by improving how we use agents and validate their output.
What you will get
- A fully remote role with a predictable, fixed schedule — no ambiguity about when you need to be online.
- Stability and long-term runway — an established, growing company with a steady platform and clear priorities.
- AI-forward engineering culture — we expect you to use AI coding agents as a force multiplier for investigation, design, implementation, and operational playbooks.
- Real technical growth — you will level up on architecture, quality, reliability, and AI-native workflows alongside engineers who care about the craft.
