Summary
The Scientist-Modeler will be responsible for constructing and implementing multi-scale models that incorporate biological data across various levels, spanning from the cellular and tissue levels to the organ, patient, and population levels. These models will be specifically tailored to address particular disease areas. The Scientist will utilize these models to run simulations aimed at solving real-time challenges. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a robust foundation in mathematical principles and demonstrate substantial experience in the design and development of multi-scale models, ideally within a biological or medical context. Additionally, proficiency in data analysis, programming, and the ability to work collaboratively within a research team will be considered valuable assets.
Responsibilities
- Develops mathematical models to analyze dynamical behavior, quantify parameter sensitivities and general behavior or systems studied.
- Surveys available literature summaries and papers to make reasoned decisions on biological representation.
- Develops tools, scripts etc. to make workflows more efficient.
- Summarizes research steps taken and their contribution to project goals.
- Communicates with the client research team to identify need, strives to understand and define a complex research problem, and break it down into a research flow.
- Communicates effectively with team members and clients and leads the project in alignment with client expectations.
Qualifications For Senior Scientist
- Bachelors/Masters/PhD in a Quantitative Discipline such as Mechanical/Chemical/Aerospace Engineering or any other Engineering Major with strong quantitative skills, Mathematics or Physics.
- At least 2+ years of experience in CRO, pharma or research setting in a Quantitative Pharmacology team
- Model Development: ODE model building for a given system and proficiency in model simulation using Matlab/SciLab/R/Python
- System Identification: Parameter estimation and optimization approaches
- Nonlinear dynamics: Evaluation of multiple steady state solutions for a given system,, Local and global sensitivity analysis
- Scientific skills: Visualization of mathematical functions, Interpretation of results, Drawing inferences and ability to ask “what-if’ questions
- Additional technical skills of value: Stochastic simulation approaches, Statistics etc
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of an inter-disciplinary team
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to guide and mentor junior scientists with their queries.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in executing interdisciplinary quantitative projects
