Senior QA Automation Engineer
We are looking for a
Senior QA Automation Engineer with strong experience in
test automation, API testing, AI-driven testing, and quality engineering practices across web, mobile, and backend systems. This role requires a hands-on QA professional who can design and maintain scalable automation frameworks, contribute to manual and exploratory testing where needed, and leverage modern
AI-assisted testing approaches to improve test design, coverage, maintenance, and release efficiency.
The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in
manual testing, automation testing, API validation, SQL/database testing, CI/CD integration, and emerging AI-enabled QA practices, along with the ability to mentor junior QA engineers and drive QA best practices across projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Test Planning & Quality Ownership
- Analyze business requirements, user stories, functional specifications, and technical design documents to identify test scope, risks, and quality requirements.
- Create comprehensive test scenarios, test cases, and test data for functional, regression, integration, system, smoke, sanity, and exploratory testing.
- Ensure complete test coverage and traceability using Requirement Traceability Matrix (RTM) and other QA artifacts.
- Participate in requirement reviews and provide early feedback on testability, edge cases, quality risks, and automation opportunities.
- Own QA sign-off for assigned features/releases by ensuring appropriate validation coverage, defect closure, and release readiness.
- Manual & Functional Testing
- Perform manual testing for web, mobile, and API-based applications where automation is not feasible or where exploratory validation is required.
- Conduct functional, regression, UI, smoke, sanity, integration, and exploratory testing across multiple platforms and environments.
- Validate end-to-end workflows, business rules, user journeys, and cross-system integrations.
- Perform build verification and release sanity checks for new deployments, patches, and production fixes.
- Automation Testing
- Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for UI, API, and regression testing using tools/frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Appium, Pytest, Robot Framework, or similar based on the project stack.
- Build and enhance test automation frameworks that are scalable, reusable, maintainable, and aligned with engineering standards.
- Automate critical regression suites to improve release efficiency, reduce manual effort, and increase test reliability.
- Develop reusable utilities, libraries, page objects/components, test fixtures, and test data management strategies.
- Review automation scripts, identify flakiness/root causes, and improve test stability, execution speed, and maintainability.
- Contribute to framework design decisions, coding standards, and automation best practices.
- AI-Driven Testing & Intelligent QA
- Leverage AI-assisted testing tools and techniques to improve test design, automation efficiency, and defect detection across applications.
- Use AI-enabled capabilities for:
- test case generation from requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- self-healing automation / locator resilience where supported by tools
- test impact analysis and regression optimization
- smart test data generation and synthetic test scenarios
- defect clustering, root cause hints, and failure analysis
- AI-assisted exploratory testing and coverage recommendations
- Evaluate and adopt modern QA tools/platforms that support AI-powered automation, visual validation, flaky test reduction, and autonomous regression support.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define where AI can responsibly improve QA workflows without compromising traceability, reliability, or compliance.
- Validate AI-generated test artifacts and ensure that outputs from AI tools meet project quality standards before adoption.
- Contribute to the development of prompting standards, review guidelines, and governance practices for using AI in QA and test automation.
- API, Database & Backend Validation
- Perform API testing using tools such as Postman, Python requests, REST Assured, or equivalent frameworks.
- Validate API requests/responses, response codes, schemas, authentication flows, business logic, and error handling scenarios.
- Perform backend and database validation using SQL queries to verify data integrity, transactions, and system behavior across services.
- Support testing of microservices, integrations, event-driven systems, and data flow between distributed applications.
- CI/CD & Quality Engineering Practices
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines, or equivalent.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure automated tests are executed as part of build, deployment, and release pipelines.
- Monitor test execution results, investigate failures, and maintain pipeline health.
- Support shift-left quality practices by embedding test automation into the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to quality gates, test execution strategies, environment readiness, and release validation processes.
- Defect Management, Reporting & Collaboration
- Identify, log, document, prioritize, and track defects using tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, Bugzilla, or similar platforms.
- Work closely with developers, product owners, business analysts, and other stakeholders to reproduce issues, clarify requirements, and verify fixes.
- Prepare and publish test reports, dashboards, quality metrics, defect summaries, and release status updates.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior QA/automation engineers.
- Help define test strategy, automation scope, and quality standards for the team.
- Drive continuous improvement in QA processes, automation coverage, tooling, and documentation.
- Contribute to estimation, planning, risk assessment, and prioritization of testing activities.
- Support code reviews, automation reviews, and adoption of best practices across the QA function.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Software Testing / Quality Assurance, with strong hands-on experience in test automation.
- Solid understanding of STLC, SDLC, defect lifecycle, QA methodologies, and test design techniques.
- Hands-on experience in manual testing of web, mobile, and/or API-driven applications.
- Strong experience with one or more automation tools/frameworks such as:
- Selenium WebDriver
- Playwright
- Appium
- Pytest
- Robot Framework
- or equivalent automation frameworks
- Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language such as Python, Java, or JavaScript.
- Strong experience in API testing and backend validation using Postman, REST APIs, Python requests, REST Assured, or similar tools.
- Experience with database testing and SQL for validating data and transactions.
- Experience integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitbucket, etc.
- Experience using defect tracking and test management tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, Bugzilla, or equivalent.
- Good understanding of Agile / Scrum methodology and experience working in Agile teams.
- Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
AI / Modern QA Expectations
- Exposure to or hands-on experience with AI-assisted testing tools, intelligent automation capabilities, or GenAI-enabled QA workflows.
- Ability to use AI tools responsibly for test case generation, test maintenance support, documentation, defect analysis, and productivity improvements.
- Understanding of the strengths and limitations of AI-generated outputs in a QA context, including the need for validation, traceability, and review.
Good to Have
- Experience with Robot Framework (Python).
- Experience in mobile automation testing for Android/iOS applications.
- Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter.
- Exposure to BDD frameworks, service virtualization, mock servers, contract testing, or visual testing tools.
- Experience with AI-enabled testing platforms, self-healing automation tools, or intelligent test management solutions.
- Experience working in onshore/offshore delivery models and cross-functional distributed teams.
- Experience in reviewing framework design and suggesting automation framework enhancements.
