Senior Product Manager - BBPS/ Bharath Connect

Importance of the role
Setu’s Payments BU is a key Fintech infrastructure partner enabling Customers, Agent Institutions, Banks and Billers on Bharat Connect / BBPS rails, enabling bill payments and recurring financial workflows at scale.
We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to own products built on Bharat Connect / BBPS rails. This role is focused on high-throughput transaction systems for Bill payments & other categories, partner integrations, reconciliation, settlements, dispute handling, and regulatory correctness. You will own systems where failures have ecosystem-level impact. This role provides a holistic understanding right from System reliability, Operational robustness, Partner adoption, Incident Quality, Compliance readiness and Delivery excellence.
What will you do at Setu?
In this role, you’ll spend your time in—
- Own product strategy and execution for Setu’s Bharat Connect / BBPS platform offerings
- Define end-to-end workflows across bill fetch, validation, payments, reversals, refunds, and disputes
- Specify APIs, data models, state machines, reconciliation logic, settlement cycles, and exception handling
- Partner closely with engineering on scalability, idempotency, retries, failure recovery, and observability
- Work with NBBL/network partners, billers, banks, and internal ops teams on integrations and rollout readiness
- Drive incident reviews, root cause analysis, and long-term product improvements
- Own compliance-driven requirements including audit trails, reporting, and regulatory changes
- Improve onboarding and developer experience for partners integrating with BBPS rails
- Team Leadership: Set clear goals and direction for the product team, providing regular feedback to ensure alignment with business outcomes. Collaborate effectively with business, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of product features. .
Who is the right fit for this role?
To excel in this role, you will need—
- Experience:
- 2-3 years of hands-on experience in BBPS or similar rails or payments experience.
- Track record of working with C-level stakeholders and aligning diverse teams toward a shared product vision.
- Unimpeachable integrity: You always keep your word, no matter what. And you do the right thing, always. You own up to your mistakes and can reflect on your performance objectively.
- High agency & a bias for action: You’re someone who gets stuff done, highlights problems and solves them. You’re able to work in zero-to-one environments. You will ensure we find our way to product market fit with new initiatives or take our initiatives that have found ground from 1, to 10, to 100.
- Strong organizational skills: As part of the role, you will need to be on top of multiple threads between different internal and external stakeholders. You will do well if you have a robust personal organizational system to keep track of all the moving parts.
- A keen analytical mind: You should be able to turn around a deck or a summary document in tight timelines with minimal oversight.
- A burning desire to learn and develop deep fintech expertise — building API infrastructure is a lot harder (and more rewarding) than consumer fintech. You will need to learn about:
- Architecture of legacy systems: In order to break new ground and close partnerships, you must first understand where existing systems are broken.
- Setu platform architecture and the role of APIs in financial services.
- To be a technical wizard: Familiarity with API products or the financial services ecosystem.
