Job details:
Senior Product Manager, Discovery ( VZY)
About VZY
VZY is building the aggregation layer for how India streams. We bring the country’s OTT services together into one experience, with one login, one payment, and one place to find something worth watching, all running on our own billing and entitlement infrastructure. We think of it as infrastructure with a screen: the plumbing that makes streaming effortless, wrapped in a product people actually enjoy opening.
About role
At VZY, discovery is the product. When someone opens the app, everything they see (the home layout, the ranking, the rails, the curated shelves, the sense that something was picked just for them) is the discovery surface. It’s also the biggest lever we have on whether people come back and press play again.
As Senior PM for Discovery, you’ll own that surface from end to end. You’ll set the vision for how people find something to watch across dozens of services and thousands of titles, and you’ll ship the systems that make it work: the layout engine, search, the ranking and recommendation stack, personalization for very different kinds of viewers, and our new curator-led editorial shelves. You’ll work day to day with data science, engineering, editorial, and design, and you’ll help shape the discovery team as it grows.
Our North Star is Weekly Active Streamers, not installs and not sign-ups. Success looks like getting people to press play, and then to keep coming back.
What you’ll own
- The layout engine that assembles a personalized home surface for every user, along with the roadmap for making it smarter, faster, and easier to configure.
- Ranking and recommendations, working with data science on the models behind the rails, rows, and results, and deciding what relevance actually means for us.
- Search, so that when someone arrives knowing exactly what they want, they get to it in one try, and when they only half-know, they still land on something worth watching.
- Personalization across very different viewers (language, genre, price sensitivity, household versus individual), so the surface adapts to each one without the product coming apart at the seams.
- Our curator-led editorial shelves, the authored and followable format we’re building with the curation team. You’ll own the product side of how those shelves live inside the layout.
- Discovery analytics: the dashboards, funnels, and experiments that tell us whether any of this is actually working.
What we’re looking for
- 7 to 10 years in product, with real time spent owning search, recommendations, discovery, or user growth at consumer scale.
- A track record of AI and ML powered product work, where machine learning was the heart of the experience rather than a feature bolted on afterward. You can reason clearly about models, the tradeoffs they carry, and the ways they fail.
- Experience building automation that scales, the kind of system that replaces a hundred manual decisions (ranking, tagging, layout, targeting) with one that learns. Ideally you’ve done this somewhere in entertainment or media.
- Comfort with user growth problems like activation, retention, and the habit loops that turn a first stream into a weekly one, including ownership of the metrics underneath them.
- Strong data instincts. You can define the right metrics, design honest experiments, and tell a real signal from a vanity one, all in close partnership with data science.
- A feel for content and taste, because discovery in entertainment is as much editorial and emotional as it is algorithmic.
- The seniority to work through ambiguity, set a direction others can follow, and bring along the more junior PMs on the team.
- It’s a plus if you’ve worked in OTT, streaming, media, or music, or on aggregator or marketplace products where discovery drives the whole business.
Why this role
You’ll be the person who decides how a whole country finds what to watch, with real infrastructure, a listed parent company, and leadership backing the bet. Discovery isn’t a side project at VZY. It’s what we compete on.
And it’s a genuinely good team to spend your days with. Small, low on ego and politics, high on trust, with a real soft spot for people who care about getting the craft right.
