About Us
We’re Onething, a digital experience design studio that believes great design doesn’t just look good; it feels right. We partner with some of the most exciting brands out there to create intuitive, human-first experiences across products, platforms, and interfaces. Our team of strategists, designers, writers, and makers are building work that’s clean, clever, and quietly powerful, one experience at a time.
About the Role
We've just come on board to shape the UX for a large-scale Digital Twin platform, a live, moving replica of a complex physical environment, pulled together with real-time data, 3D visualisation, GIS mapping, and AI-backed decision support into one interface for the teams running the show.
You'll own this end to end. Research, information architecture, the design system, every screen spec, and the testing that proves it all works, across desktop dashboards, video wall displays, 3D and map viewers, and mobile screens for field teams. Nothing exists yet. There's no old UI to untangle and no legacy patterns to work around. You're defining how a large, complex physical operation gets watched and run from a screen, from scratch.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design of the platform's core dashboard, the single screen control room teams use to monitor and react to everything happening across the site in real time.
- Map out the information architecture and navigation for a 40- to 60-screen platform covering operations, assets, alerts, AI insights, simulations, and reporting.
- Build the design system from the ground up: colours, type, components, data visualisation patterns, and accessibility, all built to stay legible on screens running 24/7.
- Design how the 3D and GIS viewers work: camera movement, spatial navigation, live data layered onto real assets, and smooth switching between 2D, 3D, and map views.
- Shape the AI layer: how predictions and recommendations show up, and how operators can accept, reject, or adjust what the AI suggests.
- Design the video wall and command centre experience, including how content shifts during high-pressure or emergency moments.
- Run user research directly with control room operators, supervisors, and engineers to build personas and validate every major design call.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years in UX or product design, with 2 to 3+ years designing for complex operational or industrial platforms: control rooms, NOCs, SOCs, SCADA or BMS dashboards, fleet or logistics tools, or similar mission-critical systems.
- A proven ability to make dense, data-heavy dashboards still feel scannable at a glance.
- Strong information architecture instincts for structuring a large, multi-module platform.
- Serious Figma skills and experience building design systems that scale across a dev team.
- Experience designing data visualisations, not just picking chart types, but colour logic for multi-series data, threshold-based alerts, and live refreshing views.
- Comfort running contextual research in a live operational setting and turning it into design decisions you can defend with evidence.
- Bonus if you've designed 3D, spatial, or GIS interfaces before, or worked on video walls, AI-assisted decision tools, or real-time systems where every second of latency matters.
