Job details:
ABOUT THE ROLE
Pinaka Green develops and owns green hydrogen plants on a BOO/BOOT basis — which means every engineering and execution decision is ours to own, not our EPC or PMC vendor's. As our Owner's Engineer, you are Pinaka's eyes, mind, and voice across the full project lifecycle. You do not design the plant — that is the EPC's job. You ensure the EPC designs it right. You do not write the DPR — that is the consultant's job. You ensure it is rigorous, bankable, and consistent with Pinaka's standards. You raise concerns early, hold vendors to account, and make sure nothing technically or commercially unsound passes through on Pinaka's watch.
This role spans five areas — process engineering (technical integrity of design, DPR, and all engineering deliverables), process safety engineering (safety philosophy and hydrogen-specific hazard management), project engineering (schedule, cost, procurement, FAT, and construction oversight), commissioning & startup (pre-commissioning through first hydrogen and performance guarantee tests), and operations & maintenance (EPC-to-O&M handover, training, and defect liability support). All five serve one purpose: protecting Pinaka's technical and commercial interests as project owner.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
A. Process Engineering — Technical Review & DPR Ownership
• Opportunity discovery & FSR — Lead early-stage feasibility: develop the Feasibility Study Report (FSR), screen sites, size demand, and stress-test techno-commercial viability so only opportunities worth pursuing move forward.
• DPR ownership — Own the Detailed Project Report end-to-end across process basis, equipment list, CAPEX/OPEX, utilities, and safety philosophy; ensure it is bankable and fit for lender and investor scrutiny. The DPR is not accepted until you sign off.
• Engineering deliverable review — Review PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, simulations, cause-and-effect diagrams, and layouts for correctness and conformance to the design basis. Flag gaps and deviations — do not let them pass.
• Design basis stewardship — Ensure EPC and vendors work to a consistent design basis aligned with Pinaka's standards; raise formal deviations when scope or specifications drift.
• Regulatory compliance oversight — Ensure PESO, SMPV(U), GCR, and statutory submissions are prepared correctly; review before they go out; coordinate with regulators as Pinaka's technical representative.
• Technical query resolution — Respond to RFIs and technical queries from EPC and vendors in coordination with the Founder; keep responses sound and properly documented.
B. Process Safety Engineering
• HAZOP and safety review representation — Represent Pinaka at HAZOP, SIL, and LOPA sessions; judge study quality and track action closure on Pinaka's behalf.
• Process safety ownership — Own safety philosophy, relief and blowdown, hazardous area classification, F&G, and ESD logic; ensure hydrogen consequence modelling (dispersion, jet fire, vapour cloud) is defensible and all safety actions are closed before commissioning.
C. Project Engineering — Execution & Compliance
• Schedule & cost oversight — Review and challenge the EPC/PMC schedule and CAPEX tracker; surface milestone and budget risks early; escalate to the Founder with options, not just problems.
• EPC/PMC performance management — Serve as Pinaka's day-to-day interface with EPC and PMC; run progress meetings, track open actions, and hold vendors to contractual commitments.
• Procurement oversight — Review MRs, TBEs, and vendor selections for key packages (electrolysers, compressors, PSA, control systems); ensure choices align with Pinaka's specs.
• RFQ and vendor cost discovery — Float RFQs independently of the EPC where needed; build a benchmark cost database for key equipment and services; pressure-test EPC/PMC cost submissions against market quotes.
• FAT and inspection representation — Attend FATs and pre-delivery inspections on Pinaka's behalf; review protocols, witness outcomes, and approve or reject equipment before dispatch.
• Construction oversight — Conduct periodic site visits; verify execution against drawings, specs, and HSE norms; review and accept punch list closures.
D. Commissioning & Startup
• Commissioning and startup oversight — Represent Pinaka through pre-commissioning, commissioning, and first hydrogen — approve procedures, witness loop checks, leak tests, and purging; verify performance guarantee tests meet contractual KPIs before acceptance.
E. Operations & Maintenance
• Support to O&M team — Bridge the EPC-to-O&M handover; support troubleshooting, warranty claims, and root-cause analysis during the defect liability period; feed lessons learned back into the design basis.
• Training — Coordinate operator and engineer training from EPC and OEM vendors; verify scope, materials, and competency assessments before sign-off; build Pinaka's internal training library from each project.
• Document control and handover — Ensure complete as-built documentation, MRBs, and O&M manuals are delivered to Pinaka's standards at mechanical completion and final handover.
POSITION SNAPSHOT
Engagement
Contractor / Independent Consultant (retainer basis). 3-month assessment with pathway to full-time as project portfolio grows.
Base Location
Gurugram, Haryana. Periodic site visits and FAT travel as project phases demand.
Experience
5-10 years in process and/or project engineering — in owner/developer, PMC, or engineering consultancy roles. Owner-side or PMC experience strongly preferred over pure EPC.
Reports to
Founder & CEO (direct)
Compensation
₹1.25 lakhs per month in hand.
Start
Immediate — outcome within 10 days of application.
YOU SHOULD HAVE
• 5+ years in process and/or project engineering — preferably on the owner/developer or PMC side. You understand how EPC contracts work and where vendors cut corners.
• Strong process engineering review ability: read and critically interrogate PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, simulation outputs, and HAZOP reports — and tell the EPC when something is wrong.
• Experience owning or contributing to DPRs, feasibility studies, or FEED packages — you know what a bankable, technically rigorous report looks like and what to reject.
• Familiarity with hydrogen systems (electrolysers, compression, storage, PESO/SMPV/GCR) is a strong plus. Willingness to learn fast is non-negotiable.
• Project controls literacy: schedule review (MS Project/P6), CAPEX tracking, RFI/TQ management, vendor coordination, FAT attendance.
• B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. Chartered Engineer or PMP certification is a plus.
WHY THIS ROLE
• Work directly with the Founder & CEO — you are Pinaka's engineering conscience on every project, not a cog in a large PMC machine.
• Full lifecycle ownership from DPR to handover — technical review, procurement oversight, construction visits, commissioning sign-off — all yours.
• Green hydrogen is a new domain where owner-side engineering rigour is rare and highly valued — your expertise will compound quickly.
• Pathway from contractor to full-time Head of Engineering as the project portfolio scales.
• Equity consideration for standout performers post-assessment.
• No bureaucracy, no layers — your technical judgment shapes how Pinaka builds.
How to Apply
Send your CV and a brief note: (a) a project where you reviewed or challenged an EPC/vendor's engineering — what you found, what you did, and the outcome; (b) your experience with DPRs or FEED packages — what you owned and what standard you held vendors to; (c) why you want to build in green hydrogen.
