Role Purpose
The Senior Process Engineer will be a senior individual contributor within the Process & Proposal Department, owning end-to-end process engineering for incoming RFQs, tenders, and pre-bid technical engagements across W.O.G.'s domestic and international project pipeline. The role sits at the front-end of the project lifecycle - converting client tender documents, raw water/wastewater characteristics, and discharge/reuse norms into technically compliant, commercially competitive, and bid-winning process solutions.
This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to the Business Development, Engineering, and Senior Leadership teams, and is critical to W.O.G.'s growth in ETP, STP, WTP, SWRO desalination, ZLD, MEE/MVR, MBR, UASB, and resource-recovery projects.
Key Responsibilities
A. Proposal Engineering & Bid Support (primary focus — ~60% of role)
- Lead the technical solutioning of incoming RFQs/RFPs/tenders for ETP, STP, WTP, SWRO desalination, ZLD, MEE/MVR, reuse & recycle, leachate, spent caustic, and resource-recovery projects.
- Study tender documents, scope of work, raw water/effluent characteristics, treated water/discharge norms (CPCB, MoEFCC, USEPA, WHO, local regulators), and convert client requirements into an optimized treatment scheme.
- Develop technology selection studies comparing biological (MBBR, MBR, SBR, IFAS, UASB, AnMBR), membrane (UF/NF/RO/EDI), thermal (MEE, MVR, ATFD), and advanced oxidation (Ozone, UV, Fenton, AOPs) options on the basis of CAPEX, OPEX, footprint, energy, recovery, and sludge generation.
- Prepare Process Basic Engineering Packages for bids:
- Process Design Basis (PDB)
- Block Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Mass & energy balance, hydraulic flow diagrams (HFDs)
- Process descriptions and Control philosophy
- Tentative P&IDs and equipment layout inputs
- Equipment list with key sizing parameters
- Utility consumption summary (power, steam, chemicals, water, air)
- Carry out equipment and hydraulic sizing: pumps, blowers, clarifiers, DAFs, screens, MBBR/MBR tanks, UASB/EGSB reactors, RO/UF skids, evaporators, crystallisers, ATFDs, sludge handling units, chemical dosing systems, DM/SAC/WAC, EDI, and disinfection systems (UV/ozone/chlorination).
- Generate process calculations: aeration & oxygen demand, sludge generation, RO recovery & flux modelling (using WAVE, IMSDesign, ROSA, Toraywater, Winflows or equivalent), evaporation duty, hydraulic gradelines, retention times, and biogas generation potential.
- Prepare techno-commercial offers in coordination with Sales/Proposal Sales, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, I&C, and Costing teams; build optioned costing scenarios where required.
- Float vendor RFQs for major equipment packages (membranes, evaporators, blowers, pumps, dosing systems, screens, centrifuges/decanters, instrumentation); technically evaluate vendor offers and recommend selections to the bid lead.
- Prepare clause-by-clause technical compliance statements, deviation lists, and bid clarifications/queries to clients/consultants.
- Drive bid submission timelines and own technical quality of every proposal that leaves the department.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, technical clarification meetings, and negotiation rounds with clients, consultants (e.g., DCPL, EIL, MECON, PDIL, Tata Consulting, Jacobs), and PMC firms represent W.O.G. on technical questions and present treatment philosophies confidently.
B. Engineering Documentation & Design Reviews (~20%)
- For awarded projects, support handover to the Detailed Engineering team — author/review Process Design Basis, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment data sheets, control philosophy, and line lists.
- Participate in and document HAZOP, SIL, HAZID, design reviews, and constructability reviews.
- Approve vendor technical submissions/GADs for process equipment.
- Ensure all process deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards: CPHEEO, MoEFCC norms, CPCB discharge & reuse norms, IS/BIS, ASME, API, ASHRAE, ISO 14001, and client-specific specifications.
C. Cross-Functional & Client-Facing Support (~15%)
- Provide technical inputs to Business Development for enquiry qualification, market mapping, and target-account strategies in water, wastewater, ZLD, biogas, and green hydrogen verticals.
- Deliver technical presentations to clients, EPC contractors, government bodies, and consultants.
- Support trade fairs, exhibitions, and seminars (IFAT India, WaterEx, Aquatech, Chemtech, BioEnergy summits) with technical booth representation and white papers.
- Provide commissioning and process troubleshooting support to the I&C and O&M teams when escalated — start-up sequence, performance guarantee testing, debottlenecking, and process optimisation.
- Conduct plant audits for prospective O&M opportunities and develop revamp/upgrade proposals.
D. Knowledge Management & Innovation (~5%)
- Build and maintain the department's proposal library: reference designs, sizing templates, cost benchmarks, vendor performance records, and lessons-learned database.
- Stay current on emerging technologies relevant to W.O.G.'s portfolio — anaerobic membrane bioreactors, electro-coagulation, electrodialysis, granular sludge, MABR, PFAS destruction (SCWO, electrochemical), digital twins, AI-based water quality prediction, and carbon-credit-linked treatment schemes.
- Contribute to W.O.G.'s thought leadership through case studies, technical articles, and conference papers.
