Kanwar Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. is seeking a Senior Power System Engineer specializing in power system studies, including short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, and arc flash analysis. This role involves working with our Canadian engineering team on industrial, utility, and energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, validate, and review power system models.
- Perform short-circuit analysis, equipment duty evaluations, protection coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Conduct load flow, dynamic stability, electromagnetic transient, and grounding studies.
- Evaluate protective device settings and recommend improvements to protection selectivity and incident energy.
- Review single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, relay settings, and vendor information; identify missing data and resolve technical discrepancies.
- Prepare technical reports, calculation packages, time-current curves, arc flash labels, and engineering recommendations.
- Communicate study assumptions, findings, and recommendations to clients and project teams.
- Review junior engineers’ work, provide technical guidance, and manage deliverables within project schedules.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant power system engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, and arc flash analysis.
- Proficiency in ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, or EasyPower.
- Strong understanding of electrical equipment, protective relays, grounding principles, and power system modelling.
- Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, IEC, and NFPA standards, including IEEE 1584, IEEE 80, and NFPA 70E.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including technical report writing and client discussions.
- Ability to independently plan studies, verify model inputs, assess results, and develop practical recommendations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications — Assets
- Experience delivering North American projects, including familiarity with Canadian and U.S. engineering practices and utility requirements.
- Hands-on project experience with PSCAD, PSS®E, and CDEGS.
- Experience in electrical design review, including single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, equipment specifications, and vendor drawings.
- Experience with grid interconnection studies for solar, wind, BESS, or conventional generation.
- Experience preparing relay settings and configuration files for SEL, GE, Siemens, or other protection relays.
- Experience with motor starting, harmonics, insulation coordination, or commissioning support.
