Job Description:
Network Engineer – WAN
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Network/WAN Engineer to design, implement, manage, and support enterprise-wide Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure. The ideal candidate will ensure high availability, performance, and security of WAN connectivity across multiple locations while collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
WAN Design & Implementation
- Design, deploy, and maintain WAN solutions using technologies such as MPLS, SD-WAN, VPN, and leased lines
- Configure and manage WAN routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
- Implement network redundancy, failover, and high-availability solutions
Network Operations & Support
- Monitor WAN performance, latency, packet loss, and availability
- Troubleshoot complex WAN, routing, and connectivity issues across sites
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement preventive measures
- Provide Level 2/Level 3 network support and on-call support as required
Security & Compliance
- Implement WAN security controls including firewalls, IPsec tunnels, and access control
- Ensure compliance with organizational security standards and best practices
- Participate in security audits and vulnerability remediation
Vendor & Service Provider Management
- Work with ISPs, telecom providers, and hardware vendors for provisioning and issue resolution
- Manage circuit upgrades, migrations, and service decommissions
- Review SLAs and ensure vendor performance meets expectations
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and operational documentation
- Participate in network optimization and modernization initiatives
- Recommend improvements to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with WAN technologies (MPLS, SD-WAN, VPN, IPsec)
- Hands-on experience with routing and switching technologies
- Proficiency in network devices from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, or Aruba
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, QoS, DNS, DHCP, and network monitoring tools
- Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Relevant certifications preferred:
- CCNA / CCNP (Routing & Switching or Enterprise)
- JNCIS/JNCIP
- Fortinet NSE or equivalent
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience with cloud connectivity (AWS, Azure, GCP WAN integration)
- Knowledge of automation/scripting (Python, Ansible)
- Experience managing large, distributed enterprise networks
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Good time management and ability to handle multiple priorities
