Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled MySQL Database Developer to design, optimize, and maintain our mission-critical database systems. You will work at the intersection of performance engineering, data governance, and cloud infrastructure — ensuring our databases are fast, reliable, and always available as Kissht scales to serve millions of customers.
Key Responsibilities
Schema Design & SQL Development
- Design, implement, and maintain database schemas for both OLTP and OLAP systems.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries, including advanced joins, window functions, and aggregations.
- Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, constraints, and data validation rules.
Performance Tuning
- Conduct query performance analysis using EXPLAIN plans, index optimization, and execution profiling.
- Configure and tune database systems for:
- Memory management and storage engine selection
- Connection pooling and query caching
- Analyze and resolve disk I/O bottlenecks, memory pressure, query locks, and contention issues.
Database Administration & Cloud
- Manage and maintain relational databases — MySQL/MariaDB and PostgreSQL.
- Administer cloud database services — Amazon RDS, Aurora, and MongoDB on EC2.
- Set up and manage replication (primary–replica, multi-region) and clustering (e.g., MySQL Group Replication).
- Implement failover strategies and ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Enforce data governance practices including schema versioning, change management, data retention policies, and auditing.
- Proactively identify and resolve data integrity issues, including deduplication and constraint management.
- Prioritize uptime, recoverability, and data consistency in all database operations.
Collaboration & Reliability
- Collaborate closely with engineering, DevOps, and security teams to support application performance and scalability.
- Champion an SQL-first, performance-oriented mindset in all data layer design decisions.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform for RDS provisioning.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for database migrations (e.g., Flyway, Liquibase, Alembic).
- Exposure to NoSQL databases such as Apache Cassandra.
- Automation of database setup and deployments via scripting (Bash, Python, etc.).
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator or in a comparable role.
- Strong command of SQL and deep familiarity with relational database management systems.
- Proven experience with both cloud-native (RDS, Aurora) and self-hosted database architectures.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
- Values stability, robust backup procedures, and disaster recovery planning.
- Identifies subtle performance issues and anticipates shifting data access patterns.
- Communicates clearly and works effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Leverages the full power of relational databases for logic, transformation, and performance.
- Maintains strict standards for data quality, validation, and regulatory compliance.
