Executive Summary
We are seeking a senior, hands-on Multimedia Application Engineer with deep expertise in embedded video systems and smart camera devices. This is a Senior Individual Contributor role, focused on technical ownership, architecture, and development of high-quality multimedia software for intelligent camera products.
The role is designed to support technical ownership of multimedia subsystems and close collaboration with engineers across multimedia and embedded system domains, with ownership spanning design, implementation, and production-grade software.
Company Profile
Pixcellence Technologies is a pioneering R&D and product design company specializing in intelligent wireless video products, including industry-leading wireless video doorbells and a range of smart camera solutions. We are known for our expertise in low-power embedded systems, multimedia software, image quality engineering, and advanced video processing, delivering products deployed at global scale.
With a strong engineering presence in Bengaluru and close collaboration with global partners across the United States and Taiwan, Pixcellence operates at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and real-world impact. Our teams work on end-to-end product development—from silicon bring-up to production-grade software—fostering a culture of ownership, technical depth, and continuous learning.
Pixcellence serves as a core engineering and innovation centre for Alarm.com, a US-based global leader in smart security and surveillance products. Our engineers contribute directly to next-generation product architectures, large-scale deployments, and global technology roadmaps.
Role Overview
As a Senior Multimedia Application Engineer, you will take technical ownership of embedded multimedia subsystems, with a strong emphasis on camera pipelines, video streaming, edge AI integration, and system-level optimization. You will work closely with hardware, firmware, and software teams to translate requirements into robust implementations, drive sound technical decisions, and solve complex cross-layer challenges. The role is primarily hands-on and technical in nature, centred on building, debugging, and optimizing production-grade multimedia software for embedded camera devices, with opportunities to take on broader system-level ownership as the role evolves.
Pixcellence fosters a collaborative, respectful, and low-hierarchy engineering environment where ideas are discussed openly and technical merit drives decisions.
Key Responsibilities
•Architect, design, and own components across the embedded multimedia software stack, from application-level pipelines to system-level integration.
•Design, develop, and optimize video pipelines for smart camera devices using H.264, H.265, JPEG, and AV1 codecs.
•Build and maintain streaming and networking pipelines using RTSP, WebRTC, TCP/IP, and HTTP(S) for real-time and low-latency video.
•Design and debug multimedia pipelines using GStreamer and FFmpeg in embedded Linux environments.
•Integrate and optimize multimedia pipelines with edge AI / on-device AI components for intelligent camera features and analytics.
•Understand and optimize camera system architectures, including bitrate tuning, multi-stream design, and performance optimization across ISP, CPU, DRAM, codec, scaler, and overall bandwidth constraints.
•Design solutions for battery-powered and resource-constrained camera architectures, including coordination between Linux-based multimedia pipelines and RTOS/MCU subsystems for power, performance, and reliability trade-offs.
•Be well versed with kernel-space video subsystems (e.g., V4L2, buffer management, memory/DMA interactions) and their interaction with user-space multimedia frameworks.
•Collaborate with BSP and firmware teams and maintain working knowledge of embedded interfaces and networked system components to effectively debug system-level multimedia issues.
•Debug complex issues using logs, traces, profiling tools, and packet analysis tools such as Wireshark.
•Collaborate with QA teams to improve overall product quality, including enabling automation, diagnostics, and tooling to catch issues earlier in the development cycle.
•Contribute to clear technical documentation and design notes using internal collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence or equivalent).
Must-Have Skills
•Strong experience with Embedded Linux and Linux user-space system programming.
•Proficiency in multi-threaded C and C++ application development for embedded Linux environments.
•Deep exposure to embedded video systems, camera-based products, or smart camera platforms.
•Hands-on expertise with multimedia frameworks, primarily GStreamer and FFmpeg, including streaming and WebRTC pipelines.
•Solid understanding of video pipelines, codecs, and end-to-end streaming architectures.
•Strong understanding of camera pipelines, including ISP behaviour and image processing fundamentals, and their impact on video quality and system performance.
•Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills with a hands-on mindset.
•Demonstrates a smart and efficient approach to engineering work, including effective use of modern tools, automation, and AI-assisted workflows to improve productivity and quality.
•Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers across hardware, firmware, and software domains.
Tools & Platforms
•Build & System: Yocto, Buildroot, CMake
•Version Control & Tracking: Git, Jira
•Scripting & Automation: Bash, Python
•Debug & Analysis: JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Wireshark
Nice to Have
•Experience with device drivers, bootloaders (U-Boot), or early board bring-up.
•Exposure to ISP tuning or image quality (IQ) tuning.
•Optional audio domain exposure, such as audio codecs (e.g., G.711, G.722), basic audio processing, echo cancellation, or audio streaming, is a plus.
•Experience optimizing systems for low-power or resource-constrained embedded devices.
Behavioural & Work Style Attributes
•Strong ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive complex technical work.
•Clear communicator who collaborates effectively across teams.
•Pragmatic, quality-focused engineer with a balance of depth and execution.
Benefits
•
Industry-standard compensation aligned with experience and merit.
•
Family floater Mediclaim, including parents.
•
Tax-efficient meal card and phone / internet reimbursement allowances.
•
Flexible work hours and a culture that values engineering ownership and autonomy.
•
Opportunities to work on globally deployed, high-impact camera products.
•
Opportunities to continuously deepen expertise across camera systems, multimedia pipelines, and emerging technologies.
