Role Overview
- Title: Senior Microsoft System Administrator
- Level: Senior
- Team: IT Infrastructure
- Reports To: Head of IT Operations
Purpose: To manage, secure, and optimize Paysera's global Microsoft-based infrastructure, ensuring peak performance, high availability, and strict PCI DSS security compliance across our hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Management: Manage and maintain a highly available enterprise environment of Windows Servers running as virtual machines on VMware ESXi hypervisors.
- Directory Services & Security: Oversee and secure a Hybrid Active Directory environment (On-premises AD and Azure AD/Entra ID), managing Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, and role-based access.
- Database & Web Hosting: Support, configure, and optimize MS SQL Server in enterprise configurations (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, clustering) alongside IIS web servers to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Compliance & Hardening: Implement and maintain stringent operating system security hardening measures required for continuous PCI DSS compliance and regular security audits.
- Monitoring & Incident Response: Monitor infrastructure health, performance, and security. Troubleshoot complex infrastructure-related incidents, escalating as needed, and perform planned maintenance or patching with minimal downtime.
- Automation: Automate routine deployments, administrative tasks, and configurations using PowerShell to ensure consistent and repeatable environments.
- Migrations & Expansions: Lead the implementation of Microsoft infrastructure services for new projects and data center migrations, ensuring zero critical service downtime.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Design and maintain backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity procedures; conduct regular DR testing.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous system configurations, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and change logs to ensure constant audit readiness.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (Networking, Security, DevOps) to align infrastructure changes with business continuity plans.
Must-Have Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft System Administration within enterprise production environments
- Virtualization: Proven expertise in managing virtualized environments, specifically using VMware ESXi
- Core Microsoft Stack: Deep understanding and administrative experience with Windows Server OS, Hybrid Active Directory, and IIS
- Microsoft Cloud Ecosystems: Hands-on experience with Azure Cloud services, Azure DevOps, and Microsoft 365, including CI/CD pipelines and code repository management
- Microsoft Licensing & Partnership: Experience with Microsoft licensing models and working with Microsoft Partner programs (MAPS, Solutions Partner, etc.)
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Proven ability to design, implement, and test backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity procedures
- Security & Compliance: Experience in regulated environments with strong knowledge of PCI DSS standards and auditing processes
- Scripting/Automation: Strong proficiency in PowerShell for writing, maintaining, and executing automation scripts
- Networking Knowledge: Solid understanding of network fundamentals (OSI model, firewalls, VPNs, ACLs) in a Windows server environment
- Language: English proficiency (B2 level or higher) for technical documentation and cross-team communication
- Reliability: Stable career history with an average tenure of 2+ years per role over the past 5 years
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Database Administration: Proficiency in deploying and managing MS SQL Server in high-availability enterprise configurations (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, clustering); typically delivered in collaboration with a dedicated DBA
- Experience with advanced infrastructure monitoring and management tools (e.g., System Center / SCOM, Zabbix)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline management and integrating infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles into Windows environments
- Experience managing integrations with SIEM solutions for proactive threat detection
