Youth Organization in Defence of Animals (YODA) is a registered charity founded in 2010 in Mumbai, driven by a mission to foster humane human-animal co-existence. YODA is dedicated to providing medical care to abandoned and injured animals, rehabilitating those with psychological trauma, and offering shelter to homeless or aging animals until they are ready for adoption or release. The organization also works extensively in vaccinating and sterilizing stray animals to control their population and prevent zoonotic diseases. Through education and awareness efforts, YODA aims to create a city free from animal cruelty.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Goa for a Senior Medicine OPD Veterinarian. The Veterinarian will diagnose and treat medical conditions in animals, perform routine check-ups, vaccinations, and health assessments, as well as prescribe and administer treatment for a variety of illnesses and injuries. The vet will oversee other veterinarians, train and up skill junior veterinarians. Additional responsibilities include managing outpatient department (OPD) cases, advising on animal health maintenance, and educating pet parents and animal caretakers. The Veterinarian will also collaborate with shelter and adoption teams to ensure the health and well-being of animals under YODA’s care.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge and experience in Veterinary Medicine, particularly in diagnosing and treating small animals such as cats and dogs
- Proficiency in surgical procedures, vaccinations, and providing post-operative care
- Skill in managing outpatient department (OPD) cases and providing comprehensive treatment plans
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with pet parents, staff, and volunteers effectively
- Adept in veterinary technology and medical record documentation
- Ability to work compassionately with injured, abandoned, and distressed animals
- A degree in Veterinary Science (BVSc or equivalent) and a valid license to practice veterinary medicine in India
- Prior experience in a similar role or a non-profit animal welfare organization is a strong advantage
