About the RoleWe are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our middle management team. This role requires a technical lead who excels at transforming complex concepts into production-ready hardware. You will be responsible for the mechanical architecture of our products, with a specialized focus on sheet metal fabrication, vacuum casting, and high-precision injection molding. The ideal candidate possesses the senior-level judgment required to select the right manufacturing process for the right application, ensuring our innovations are scalable, durable, and cost-effective.
Key Responsibilities● Mechanical Architecture & Design: Lead the design of complex assemblies using Fusion 360, focusing on structural integrity and seamless integration of internal components.
● Advanced Manufacturing Integration: Design parts specifically optimized for Injection Moulding (draft angles, wall thickness, rib design) and Vacuum Casting for bridge production and high-fidelity prototyping.
● Sheet Metal & Fabrication: Develop robust enclosures and structural frames, applying deep knowledge of CNC bending, welding methods, and assembly tolerances.
● Functional Prototyping: Leverage 3D printing and vacuum casting to create functional, aesthetic prototypes that mirror final production quality for testing and validation.
● DFM/DFA Mastery: Conduct comprehensive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews to minimize production errors and costs.
● Vendor & Lifecycle Management: Collaborate with toolmakers and fabrication partners in Chennai and beyond to oversee mold flow analysis and fabrication quality.
● Project Leadership: Manage design timelines, iterate based on testing data, and mentor junior engineers on manufacturing best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
● Experience: 3–6 years in mechanical product design and development.
● Software Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in Fusion 360.
● Process Expertise: * Proven experience in Injection Moulding design and tooling requirements.
○ Hands-on experience with Vacuum Casting for silicone tooling and urethane resin parts.
○ Extensive knowledge of Sheet Metal fabrication and general metalwork.
● Additive Manufacturing: Skilled in using 3D printing (FDM/SLA) for rapid iteration and functional testing.
● Engineering Standards: Strong command of GD&T, material selection (plastics and metals), and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Preferred Skills● Experience in high-temperature environments or specialized industrial coatings.
● Exposure to IoT hardware, electronics packaging, or electromechanical systems.
● Ability to perform basic FEA/simulation to validate designs before prototyping.
Key Traits● Technical Strategist: Able to decide when to pivot from 3D printing to vacuum casting or hard tooling based on project stage and volume.
● Problem-Solving Mindset: A "hands-on" engineer who enjoys troubleshooting on the shop floor or in the lab.
● Middle Management Capability: Strong ownership of projects; able to communicate technical risks and timelines to stakeholders.
What We Offer● Technical Leadership: High level of autonomy in defining mechanical standards and manufacturing paths.
● End-to-End Impact: Take products from the initial sketch through to injection-molded mass production.
● Dynamic Environment: Work on cutting-edge products within a fast-paced, collaborative engineering team.
