Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role based in Kochi. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and complete machines from concept to production. Responsibilities include preparing detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, selecting materials and components, and performing basic engineering calculations for strength, tolerance, and reliability. The role involves collaborating with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to safety and industry standards. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will review and improve existing designs, support prototype build and testing, troubleshoot design issues on the shop floor, and mentor junior engineers and designers. Regular interaction with internal stakeholders and, when needed, customers will be required to understand requirements, clarify specifications, and incorporate feedback into design updates.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in core Mechanical Engineering and applied mechanics, with experience in industrial or machinery applications.
- Proficiency in Design Engineering and Machine Design, including sizing of components, material selection, tolerance analysis, and manufacturability considerations.
- Hands-on expertise in Product Design for machinery or equipment, from concept through prototyping, testing, and design refinement.
- Advanced skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar) for 3D modeling and 2D detailing.
- Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings, GD&T, and bills of materials, and to work closely with production to resolve design issues.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Several years of relevant experience in machine-building, packaging machinery, special-purpose machines, or related mechanical systems.
- Experience with engineering standards, basic structural and thermal calculations, and safety and compliance requirements for machinery.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple design projects and deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to guide junior team members and coordinate with cross-functional teams on-site.
