Role Description The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, responsible for leading the design and development of mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for SPMs, moulds, fixtures, and automation solutions. Day-to-day activities include creating and reviewing detailed CAD models and drawings, performing design calculations, selecting materials and standard components, and ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and manufacturability requirements. The role involves collaborating closely with production, quality, and automation teams to refine designs, support prototyping, and resolve engineering issues during manufacturing and assembly. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will also guide junior engineers, contribute to design standards and best practices, and participate in customer discussions to translate technical requirements into robust engineering solutions.
Qualifications
- Strong background in Mechanical Engineering with proven expertise in Design Engineering and Machine Design.
- Proficiency in Product Design, including concept development, design validation, and optimization for manufacturability and assembly.
- Advanced skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar) for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Experience designing equipment for automotive or industrial machinery, preferably including SPMs, moulds, fixtures, or gauges.
- Ability to interpret engineering standards, GD&T, and technical specifications, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with experience mentoring junior engineers and working in cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, plastic injection moulding, and assembly automation is an advantage.
