Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Outdoor Lighting & Solar Infrastructure (m/f/d)

HEI Technology India Pvt. Ltd., based at ASPIRE – IIT Bombay Research Park, is the Indian R&D and innovation subsidiary of HEI Technology International GmbH (Austria). As we expand our development capabilities, we are looking for a:
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d)
YOUR ROLE
You will be responsible for the end-to-end mechanical development of HEI's outdoor lighting and solar infrastructure products, transforming concepts into production-ready solutions.
Working closely with our engineering teams in India and Europe, you will develop robust mechanical designs, evaluate prototypes, optimize products for manufacturing and support their successful transition into production.
This is a technical, hands-on engineering role that requires sound engineering judgement, independent thinking and a strong focus on product quality, manufacturability and long-term reliability.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop innovative mechanical designs for outdoor lighting, solar infrastructure and IoT-enabled products from concept through serial production.
- Design complete product assemblies including poles, luminaires, brackets, housings, electromechanical components and cable routing.
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings and assembly documentation using SolidWorks.
- Generate complete engineering documentation including Bills of Materials (BoMs), assembly instructions and technical documentation.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout product development.
- Select suitable materials, manufacturing processes and surface finishes based on product requirements.
- Build, evaluate and refine prototypes through testing and iterative design improvements.
- Work closely with electrical, electronics and industrial design teams to develop integrated product solutions.
- Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners during prototype and production phases.
- Ensure engineering documentation is accurate, structured and maintained under revision control.
- Continuously improve product designs with a focus on performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost optimization.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 7 years of industrial experience in mechanical product development.
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc (3D modelling and manufacturing drawings). Knowledge of rendering and lighting design software is a big plus.
- Demonstrated experience taking products from concept through prototype development and serial production.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, machining, casting, welding, aluminium extrusions and plastics.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience in cable routing, electromechanical assemblies and structural product design.
- Familiarity with simulation tools (SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent) would be an advantage.
- Excellent problem-solving ability with a practical engineering approach.
- Strong written and spoken English.
