Description
Responsibilities
A Cloud Operations engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing cloud infrastructure and services. They ensure the availability, performance, and security of cloud-based applications and resources while monitoring and responding to incidents and issues. This role requires expertise in cloud platforms, automation, and best practices.

- Managing 24/7 operations and health of the SaaS applications hosted in public cloud.
- Act as the primary site-level leader for Cloud Operations at the assigned location, accountable for local execution, team health, and operational excellence.
- Serve as a leader and coach, keeping customer needs at the forefront and providing day-to-day oversight to the team.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships across Cloud Operations and partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Services, and Support to support our client base and improve software delivery, configuration, monitoring, and overall operations.
- Respond to emergencies via Major Incident Management processes, ensuring detailed follow-ups with corrective and preventative actions.
- Automate, operate , and continuously improve AWS & Azure infrastructure across web and data tiers (VMs and containers), including networking and security (VPCs, security groups), traffic management (load balancers), and scaling (autoscaling) using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation).
- Design and deliver solutions in AWS & Azure, modernizing legacy tools and systems by adopting current cloud technologies, tooling, and operational processes.
- Develop scripts and automation to reduce manual effort for recurring maintenance and to safely execute time-sensitive, one-off operational tasks.
- Lead capacity planning, provisioning, and scaling of the application infrastructure, including cost-benefit analysis of vendor offerings.
- Implement ITIL best practices across various application operations to improve availability, security, application performance, and proactive incident response.
- Improve application deployment and upgrade strategies to support our goal of 100% uptime and delivering highly performing Software as a Service (SaaS) solution to our client base.
- Continuously improve our observability maturity across our SaaS solutions and demonstrate the ability to deliver the proactive detection & remediation of issues before they are noticeable to external customers.
- Ensure that operational practices are 100% aligned with PowerSchool’s information security policies & processes for the safekeeping of all sensitive data.
- Develop high-level design interaction diagrams and a service catalog for all assigned applications and/or customers.
- Identify cloud operations staff development needs and implement a plan to grow and/or train staff in applicable skill sets, specializations, and certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in on-call rotation(s).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required .
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science , Information Systems or equivalent degree required .
- A passion for Cloud native technologies and a desire to provide exceptional customer service.
- 5+ years managing small to medium-sized technical operations and supporting teams (on and offshore), in service of public cloud deployments of enterprise applications and SaaS solutions.
- 7+ years of experience building hosting services in a public cloud.
- Experience with capacity planning, cost optimization, and evaluation of infrastructure vendor offerings.
- Experience with Infrastructure Security, Automation, and Application Management.
- Proficient in leveraging infrastructure as code (Terraform/CloudFormation/CDK) and observability tools (Datadog/New relic/CloudWatch/Splunk).
- Working knowledge of docker and docker orchestration: Kubernetes (preferred), or ECS.
- Working knowledge of software code repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and modern application deployment techniques.
- Experience managing RDBMS and NoSQL database systems.
- Working knowledge of AI tooling.
- Ability to work in a changing, dynamic environment .
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
