About the role -
Building teacher capacity within large-scale government education systems to facilitate student agency is deeply challenging. It requires educators to reexamine long-held beliefs about teaching and gradually build confidence in new classroom practices. We believe that nurturing student agency begins with investing in teachers’ own sense of agency.
At scale, the quality of professional development is often compromised by systemic challenges—such as cascade loss, one-size-fits-all approaches, weak feedback loops, and complex classroom realities. Consequently, a gap frequently exists between training delivery and meaningful classroom change.
We are seeking a seasoned professional who brings a strong diagnostic lens to this work. Sitting at the heart of our Curriculum and Pedagogy team, you will own the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) vertical. You will diagnose core systemic gaps, understand the constraints of public education (time, hierarchy, and geography), and work backwards to design practical, scalable, and context-sensitive solutions.
Roles & Responsibilities -
1. Research and Design
- Model Evolution: Articulate strategic objectives and extend the existing model of teacher learning.
- Evidence-Based Practices: Research global and local best practices in continuous professional development, mitigating cascade loss, mindset shifts, and instructional coaching.
- Continuous Improvement: Gather participant feedback and field data to iteratively improve training content.
- Strategic Ecosystem Partnerships: Collaborate with peer organizations and ecosystem partners in the education domain.
- Tech Integration: Adapt and integrate tech-based or blended training solutions for scalability.
2. Learning and Development
- Facilitation: Design and facilitate engaging, high-impact learning experiences for educators.
- Capacity Building: Upskill internal team members and external Master Trainers to ensure high-quality delivery.
3. Program Management & Collaboration
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with the core curriculum team to ensure training design aligns with pedagogical goals.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with government bodies (such as SCERTs) and internal operations teams to align on training schedules and implementation realities.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small, dedicated team to achieve the vertical's strategic goals.
Skills, Experience, and Mindsets
- Experience: Minimum 10–12 years of overall work experience, with a proven track record in curriculum design and large-scale teacher training for public schools.
- Classroom Grounding: Prior experience working as a classroom teacher for a few years is highly desirable.
- Government Relations: Direct experience navigating and working alongside government stakeholders, system leaders, and government school teachers.
- Domain Expertise: Deep pedagogical knowledge of effective TPD models, adult learning principles, and experiential learning frameworks.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong capacity to conduct research, analyze qualitative/quantitative data, and clearly articulate systemic bottlenecks.
- Core Competencies: Outstanding facilitation skills for both small and large groups; exceptional observation skills to assess teacher needs accurately.
- Mindset: Highly creative, collaborative, resilient, and entrepreneurial—capable of balancing design rigor with the flexibility required for ground-level implementation.
