Senior Manager – R&D & Product Development (Beauty)

Experience Profile - 6–10 years of hands-on cosmetic formulation experience with recent lab involvement

Role Summary

This is a beauty category R&D leadership role responsible for owning product formulation end-to-end—from early experimentation and texture design to guiding development, evaluating outcomes, and preparing products for scale.

The role is designed for a hands-on, builder-minded R&D professional who actively observes how beauty products are evolving across formats, textures, and user experience, and can translate that into formulations built from first principles.

You will remain deeply involved in the lab while shaping how the R&D function evolves, including team capability, process, and formulation standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end formulation from early experimentation to scale-up readiness
• Design and refine textures, sensory profiles, and overall product behaviour
• Translate emerging formats, textures, and product behaviors into workable formulations
• Solve real formulation constraints within defined ingredient boundaries
• Lead hands-on prototyping across skin and hair care formats
• Guide and mentor product developers, reviewing and elevating lab output
• Evaluate formulations beyond stability, with strong focus on real-world performance and experience
• Work closely with manufacturers to ensure scale-up integrity and consistency

Operating Mode

This role requires the ability to work in a startup environment—balancing hands-on formulation work with team leadership.

You will stay actively involved in early-stage development while building team capability, process discipline, and formulation standards as the function scales.

Decision Authority

• Final authority on formulation direction
• Ownership of texture and sensory sign-off
• Approval of readiness before pilot and scale-up

Strategic portfolio decisions remain with the founder, with your inputs actively shaping final outcomes.

Experience & Profile

• 6–10 years of hands-on cosmetic formulation experience with recent lab involvement
• Strong skin-care formulation background with working exposure to hair care
• Degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• Comfortable working within defined formulation and ingredient constraints
• Demonstrated ability to move from observation to formulation, not just execution

• Prefer concept decks or trend reports over formulation ownership
• Rely heavily on supplier-led development
• Focus on ingredient storytelling over product performance
• Operate primarily in review or approval roles without hands-on work
• Are seeking desk-only or purely managerial positions
