Job Title: Senior Mainframe DevOps Architect
Location: Remote
Working Hours: Must be available to work in Central Standard Time (CST)

Overview
We are looking for an experienced Mainframe DevOps Architect to lead the transformation of DevOps processes for mainframe environments. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in DevOps best practices, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and the tools necessary for integrating legacy mainframe systems with modern platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement DevOps strategies for mainframe-based applications.
- Build and optimize end-to-end CI/CD pipelines for legacy programming languages (e.g., COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2).
- Integrate mainframe development with broader enterprise DevOps tools and processes.
- Automate build, testing, and deployment workflows with modern DevOps tools.
- Collaborate with development, testing, infrastructure, and operations teams to improve software delivery processes.
- Establish and promote best practices for version control, code quality, and release management.
- Advocate for shift-left testing, continuous integration, and automated testing.
- Encourage DevOps culture adoption across mainframe teams.
- Monitor and ensure the performance and reliability of CI/CD pipelines.
- Ensure all activities comply with organizational security, governance, and compliance standards.
Required Skills & Expertise
Core Mainframe Skills:
- Extensive experience with COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.
- In-depth knowledge of z/OS systems.
DevOps & Automation Expertise:
- Practical experience with tools such as IBM Dependency Based Build (DBB), IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz), and Jenkins.
- Ability to design and build CI/CD pipelines specifically for mainframe environments.
- Strong scripting skills in Groovy, Shell, and Python.
Version Control & Integration:
- Expertise in Git-based version control systems (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket).
- Understanding of release workflows and branching strategies for mainframe applications.
- Experience integrating mainframe development tools with other enterprise DevOps solutions.
Testing & Quality:
- Familiar with automated testing tools for mainframe environments.
- Experience in integrating code quality and static analysis tools within the CI/CD pipeline.
Cloud & Modernization (Preferred but not required):
- Exposure to hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with mainframe modernization efforts, including API enablement.
- Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes (a plus).
Architecture & Leadership Skills:
- Experience defining and implementing DevOps architecture at an enterprise level.
- Strong skills in integrating toolchains and designing robust DevOps pipelines.
- Ability to lead and mentor teams through DevOps transformations.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with tools such as Endevor, Changeman, and ISPW.
- Familiarity with z/OS Connect and API integration.
- Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and SAFe methodologies.
