Your future duties and responsibilities
- Monitor daily batch schedules, manage job submissions, and resolve failures (abends) to ensure timely completion.
- Analyze and resolve production incidents, perform data fixes, restart jobs, and handle online transaction issues.
- Investigate underlying causes of recurring incidents to implement permanent solutions and prevent future failures.
- Perform health checks, manage NDM (Network Data Mover) file transfers, and support code deployment.
- Coordinate with application developers, DBA teams, and stakeholders, often managing P1/P2 critical issue bridges.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
5–7 years of strong hands-on experience in mainframe development using COBOL, DB2 (including embedded SQL), CICS (online/maps/BMS), JCL, SORT (DFSORT/SYNCSORT/ICETOOL), and mainframe utilities (IDCAMS, FILE-AID, TSO/ISPF, etc.)
Proven ability to work independently on end-to-end development tasks with minimal guidance
Solid experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban), including user stories, sprint deliverables, and tools like Jira/Rally/Confluence
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) – able to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, document clearly, and present solutions
Good understanding of mainframe concepts: VSAM, GDG, datasets, performance tuning, abend handling, and production support
Experience with version control/change management tools (Endevor/ChangeMan/ISpw) and testing/debug tools (Xpediter/InterTest)
