**About The Role**
We are building a large-scale IoT platform for smart home and electric bike devices. Our current system uses AWS IoT Core, MQTT, TCP devices, Node.js APIs, MongoDB, and AWS infrastructure. We are looking for an experienced engineer/architect who can design and build a robust backend capable of scaling to 100k+ connected devices.
**Responsibilities**
- Design scalable IoT backend architecture for MQTT, AWS IoT Core, and TCP devices
- Build protocol-neutral telemetry ingestion pipelines
- Create TCP gateway services for custom IoT hardware
- Integrate AWS IoT Core, Kinesis/SQS, Redis, MongoDB, and S3
- Refactor existing Node.js APIs into scalable services/workers
- Design telemetry storage for latest state, recent history, and long-term archive
- Implement device authentication, command delivery, ACK handling, and retry flows
- Build monitoring, logging, alerts, and performance dashboards
- Optimize cost, storage, and throughput for high-volume IoT data
- Work with embedded/device teams to define reliable device communication protocols
**Required Skills**
- Strong Node.js backend experience
- Experience with IoT systems at production scale
- MQTT, TCP socket programming, and binary protocol handling
- AWS IoT Core experience
- AWS services: EC2, ECS/Fargate, SQS, Kinesis, S3, CloudWatch, Load Balancers
- MongoDB schema/design/performance optimization
- Redis/ElastiCache for latest state/cache
- Experience designing worker queues and event-driven systems
- Strong understanding of reliability, retries, idempotency, and message ordering
**Good To Have**
- Experience with electric vehicle / telematics / GPS tracking platforms
- Experience with TimescaleDB, Timestream, ClickHouse, or time-series data
- Kubernetes or ECS production deployment experience
- Device certificate provisioning and fleet management
- Geofencing, alerting, and real-time dashboards
- Cost optimization for large-scale AWS workloads

**Ideal Candidate**
You have already built or scaled an IoT, telematics, fleet tracking, smart device, or EV platform. You can think beyond API endpoints and design the full system: device communication, ingestion, queues, storage, monitoring, cost, and production reliability.
