Employment Type: Full-Time, On-site
Experience: 3+ years
About Powertrace Technologies
Powertrace Technologies is a fast-growing, IIT-Delhi alumni-founded startup building next-generation control systems for the energy transition. As we scale our utility-scale storage footprint, we are looking for a brilliant, hands-on Senior Hardware Engineer to lead the design and development of our high-voltage Battery Management System (BMS) hardware platform for 800V and 1500V battery architectures.
Role Overview
In this role, you will own the hardware development and system integration of our multi-tier high-voltage BMS platform including the BMU, BCU, and PDU. You will tackle complex engineering challenges surrounding high-voltage isolation, precision sensing, power distribution, protection systems, thermal reliability, and industrial-grade hardware deployment for utility-scale energy storage systems.
Key Responsibilities
- High-Voltage Hardware Architecture: Architect, design, and validate hardware platforms for BMU, BCU, and PDU systems across 800V and 1500V battery topologies, including isolation strategy, protection architecture, and power distribution systems.
- Analog & Power Electronics Design: Develop precision analog sensing, isolated power supplies, contactor drivers, pre-charge/discharge circuits, current sensing, and protection circuitry for safety-critical BMS applications.
- PCB Design & Hardware Validation: Design production-grade multi-layer PCBs optimized for EMI/EMC, thermal performance, creepage/clearance, and HV reliability while leading board bring-up, debugging, and manufacturing validation.
- System Integration & Safety: Collaborate with embedded team to integrate hardware with firmware, validate industrial communication interfaces, and implement robust protection mechanisms for fault handling and safe system operation.
- Testing & Compliance: Perform board-level and system-level validation using oscilloscopes, CAN analyzers, thermal tools, and HV test equipment while supporting EMI/EMC, environmental, and HIL-based qualification testing.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3+ years of core hardware design and product development experience with a strong track record of shipping production-grade BMS, power electronics, or industrial control hardware.
- High Voltage Domain: Proven understanding of high-voltage systems architecture (creepage/clearance, galvanic isolation, insulation monitoring, and pre-charge circuits). Familiarity with architectures up to 1000V/1500V is highly desirable.
- Hardware Design Expertise: Expertise in analog and mixed-signal hardware design including sensing circuits, isolated communication, DC-DC power architectures, gate drivers, protection systems, and industrial BMS AFEs from TI, ADI/Maxim, NXP, or equivalent vendors.
- PCB & Debugging Tools: Proficient with PCB design and debugging tools including Altium, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, CAN tools, thermal cameras, and HV validation equipment for complex hardware debugging and system bring-up.
- Startup Grit: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment where you manage projects from concept to physical grid deployment.
- Problem Solver: Exceptionally strong first-principles thinking to isolate issues in complex electro-technical systems.
- Education: B.Tech/M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, or a related field.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to be a core engineering pillar of a high-tech startup disrupting the BESS landscape.
- Highly competitive compensation package, including meaningful equity/ESOP options aligned with company growth.
- Direct ownership over products making an immediate impact on renewable energy grid integration.
