JOB POST:- SR. GEMMOLOGIST
Academic qualification: B.Sc/M.Sc (Physics, Chemistry, Geology).
Professional Qualification: FGA/ GG / Diploma in Gemmology,
Work Experience: 5+ years in Gem testing laboratory.
Location : Mumbai
Job Profile- Gemmologist
- Gem testing and certification as per operating procedure as amended from time to time
- Studying and analysing the stones in detail and compiling / preparing the worksheet for test certificate correctly
- Carrying out the testing and identification of gemstones and certification
- Co-ordinating for obtaining identification /treatments / origin certification from R&D Department
- Ensuring that the equipment / instruments used for testing and certification process are maintained well and kept serviceable at all times, under normal circumstances
- Ensuring that materials required for testing and certification are available at all times
- Ensuring that the institute’s guidelines on testing and certification are followed correctly
- Assisting senior gemmologist(s) where necessary, in special projects (if any) of the institute
- Keeping abreast of latest gemological information including written materials on practices, instruments etc. and keep all concerned in the lab department informed about the latest developments (including technological) in the fields of gemmology and related research and education
- Attempting to write articles for industry publications and newsletters
- Ensuring proper record-keeping of testing and certification process
- Maintaining inventories of materials, equipment and documents, as applicable, as and when required
- Providing required information relating to gemmology, testing and certification activities for compilation of MIS, when required
- Recommending improvements in testing and certification process
- Entering function-related data in physical or digital forms and formats as required
- Providing data / information to all concerned, as and when required
- Organising, planning and prioritising work related to testing and certification
- Keeping abreast with computer software and technology pertaining to gemmology, testing and certification
- Keeping abreast with computer software and technology pertaining to gemology testing and certification.
- Helping and assisting the Gemmology faculty in preparing, editing, creating power points, notes, study material, assignments etc. on various gemstone and topics of gemmology, diamond grading and jewellery designing
- Carrying out any other legitimate task as assigned by superiors from time to time
