Job details:
Company Description: NEXUS AIDC is a San Francisco based AI infrastructure company and a member of the NVIDIA Inception program, AWS for Startups, and Intel Partner Alliance. We are building the intelligent operating layer for next-generation AI data centers and are looking for an exceptional engineer who wants to help define the future of AI infrastructure.
In this role (FinOps Platform Engineer), you will
- Architect, develop, and maintain the core FinOps platform, building scalable backend services, streaming data pipelines, and APIs that deliver real-time financial intelligence for AI infrastructure and enterprise data centers.
- Design and implement event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka and Apache Flink to process high-volume telemetry, infrastructure events, cloud billing data, and financial transactions with enterprise-grade reliability and exactly-once processing.
- Develop the financial computation engine that transforms infrastructure, cloud, and workload telemetry into accurate cost attribution, chargeback/showback models, forecasting, and AI workload economics while maintaining strict accounting-grade financial integrity.
- Build and optimize high-performance data platforms using PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and modern streaming technologies to support large-scale analytical workloads, financial reporting, and real-time dashboards.
- Integrate telemetry and operational data from cloud platforms, Kubernetes, GPU infrastructure, observability platforms, and enterprise data center systems into a unified FinOps data model.
- Implement secure, production-ready enterprise platforms with robust authentication and authorization, API security, secrets management, auditability, high availability, disaster recovery, and comprehensive observability.
- Develop enterprise financial controls including auditable master data, billing and chargeback workflows, cost governance, reconciliation, and complete calculation provenance to ensure financial transparency and regulatory compliance.
- Proactively troubleshoot distributed systems, optimize performance, write comprehensive automated tests, and drive production deployments through modern CI/CD pipelines while maintaining the highest standards of software quality and reliability.
- Responsibly leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate engineering delivery while ensuring all generated code is secure, maintainable, thoroughly tested, and production-ready.
- Partner closely with frontend engineers, cloud platform teams, infrastructure, DevOps, QA, and the Founder to deliver an enterprise-grade FinOps platform from specification through production.
Required Qualification
- 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including architecting and delivering enterprise-grade backend platforms, distributed systems, or large-scale data platforms into production.
- Demonstrated expertise in building high-throughput, event-driven systems using technologies such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, Spark Structured Streaming, or equivalent real-time processing frameworks.
- Deep understanding of FinOps principles, cloud cost management, financial allocation models, chargeback/showback methodologies, billing reconciliation, cost attribution, and cloud consumption analytics across one or more major cloud providers.
- Strong experience designing highly scalable APIs, microservices, and distributed architectures using Java (preferred), Kotlin, or equivalent enterprise languages, alongside modern data engineering practices.
- Advanced SQL expertise and proven experience designing and optimizing large analytical data platforms using PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, or other OLTP/OLAP databases.
- Experience building data platforms that integrate telemetry, observability, cloud billing, infrastructure, and application metrics into unified analytical or financial models.
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes, containers, cloud-native architectures, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and operating production systems with high availability, security, and observability.
- Proven experience designing systems requiring financial-grade accuracy, including reconciliation, idempotent processing, auditability, immutable records, versioned reference data, and complete data lineage.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including automated testing, code quality, performance optimization, system observability, production troubleshooting, and secure software development practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with executive leadership, mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and drive engineering execution across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualification
- FinOps Certified Practitioner, FinOps Professional, or equivalent experience implementing enterprise FinOps capabilities.
- Experience working with the FinOps Foundation FOCUS specification, AWS Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), AWS Data Exports, Azure Cost Management, Google Cloud Billing, or equivalent cloud financial datasets.
- Experience building platforms for AI infrastructure, GPU computing, HPC environments, Kubernetes-native workloads, or large-scale enterprise infrastructure.
- Familiarity with GPU telemetry and observability technologies such as NVIDIA DCGM, AMD ROCm, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, kube-state-metrics, or Slurm.
- Exposure to enterprise infrastructure management, data center operations, DCIM platforms, or industrial protocols including SNMP, Redfish, Modbus TCP, or BACnet.
- Experience building developer platforms, internal platform engineering products, or enterprise SaaS solutions used by technical operators at scale.
- Previous experience as a Founding Engineer, Technical Lead, or early-stage startup engineer, with a track record of taking complex products from specification through production deployment.
- Genuine passion for building elegant engineering solutions, solving complex distributed systems problems, and creating category-defining enterprise software.
