JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Senior executive – Patent Department
Organization: Althera Laboratories Pvt. Ltd.
Experience: 5-7 of relevant experience in patent analytics, prosecution, or IP strategy (Preferably in pharmaceuticals / life sciences / chemicals).
Summary: The Senior Executive – Patent Department, will be responsible for providing end-to-end patent support to R&D and business teams by conducting patent searches such as, patentability search, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis, invalidity search, landscape analysis, patent drafting, prosecution, and lifecycle management of IP assets. The role requires strong technical understanding, analytical skills, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patent Searching & Analysis
- Conduct prior art searches independently (novelty, patentability, invalidation)
- Perform Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) and infringement risk assessments
2. Patent Landscape & Competitive Intelligence
- Prepare patent landscape analyses
- Identify design-around and mitigation strategies
3. Patent Drafting & Prosecution
- Drafting of patent specifications
- Review office actions, prepare responses
- Track prosecution status and deadlines
- Coordinate with external patent counsels/agents
4. R&D and Business Support
- Provide IP guidance to R&D teams for: New product development; Process optimization; Formulation and lifecycle management
Skills required
- Strong understanding of patent law EU, US, India and Major RoW countries
- Familiarity with pharma IP issues
Educational Qualification
- Master’s degree in Pharmacy/Chemistry/Biotechnology/Life Sciences
- Patent Agent – preferred but not mandatory
